Man Says He Has Survived on Pizza Alone for 25 Years

pizza-addict-550x365

They say junk food can kill you. But then you get to hear stories of people who eat nothing else and are doing just fine. Like this one guy who has been eating pizza exclusively for the past 25 years. Dan, a 38-year-old woodworker from Maryland, hates veggies so much that he won’t even use them as pizza toppings. The only spice he can tolerate on his pizza is oregano.

“I’m not just talking about a slice of pizza every day,” he said in an interview. “I usually eat an entire 14” pizza, and I only eat cheese pizza. I never get sick of it. If I go to one pizza shop or another brand, it’s like eating a completely different meal.” Dan made his bizarre food choice when he was just 15 years old. That’s when he decided to go vegetarian for ‘ethical reasons’. “I still loved the taste of meat, and I still love it to this day, but due to my beliefs, I gave it up. That was about 23 years ago. I also hate vegetables.”

My guess is that Dan’s body can metabolize food like crazy. How else can a person eat just pizza (essentially bread and cheese) for years and still stay so slim? But Dan’s weight is no indicator of his health. The man suffers from diabetes and his blood sugar drops quite frequently. It gets so bad at times that he blacks out on the kitchen floor in his underwear. One time, he blacked out while driving his new car home.

When he was first diagnosed with diabetes, Dan’s endocrinologist suggested that he see a nutritionist. “You eat horribly,” the doctor said. Dan followed the advice, but found it to be a waste of time. “They just basically give you a list of things to try, saying, ‘Oh you’re a vegetarian; you should try this, this and this.’ And of course I’m not going to try any of those. I like pizza.”

Since then, Dan has changed doctors, choosing the ones that won’t complain about his eating habits. His cholesterol levels are surprisingly low, so they don’t seem to be bothered about the high calorie diet. “I haven’t had anyone truly concerned about it, except for my fianceé, and she’s not overly concerned. With her advice and support, I’ve been seeing a therapist about my food aversion.”

The shrink has helped him uncover a few unsettling things that might have caused his pizza addiction. “Like when I was four or five, we lived in the backwoods of North Carolina, where I went to daycare in Ms. Stanfill’s home. She would try to feed all of us Brunswick stew every day, which is not something you would ever feed a five-year-old. I would protest and try to run away, but she would grab me.” Dan said that she would punish him by throwing him in the closet, where he would scream and cry until his mom came to pick him up.

Another traumatic story involves Dan’s sister. “When I was five, I was in the backyard. My sister fed me some mushrooms, which turned out to be poisonous, and I had to be rushed to the hospital. They fed me Coca-Cola and Karo syrup until I vomited, and then I kept vomiting uncontrollably the entire night. I was fine after that.”

But the therapist hasn’t really helped him quit pizza. In fact, he likes going to see her because “she’s in the city and I can go to Joe Squared after, to get pizza.” When asked if he like any pizza chain in particular, he replied: “Well, I’d say they’re all pretty bad, but I do frequent them. Pizza is like s*x – even when it’s bad, it’s good.”

“I never want to give up my love and passion for pizza. However, I would like to be able to go to a restaurant where they didn’t serve pizza and order off the menu, which I can’t really do right now. My fiancée is vegetarian so it would be nice to go out to nice restaurants with her. But at the same time, I don’t want to give it up. I like processed food. I like preservatives and pizza. My dad’s the same way too. He had triple bypass surgery and then a week later went out and had a huge steak dinner.”

Dan said that his pizza-eating habit doesn’t get in the way of his life. “I’m thin. I have tons of energy, and I feel great every day, so there must be something to the exclusive pizza diet.”

Italian Architect Builds Fantastic Airships That Actually Fly

Luigi-Prina-airships-550x366

Luigi Prina might be 83 years old, but he still has the imagination of a child. The Italian architect’s studio is filled with miniature flying ships of all shapes and sizes, suspended from the ceiling with nylon strings. And here’s the special part – some of the ships really do fly. When Luigi twists the propeller and lets the toys go, they whizz around the room in loops and circles.

Luigi has been obsessed with ships ever since he can remember. He began building model ships at a very young age. When he was 16, he won a national aircraft modeling competition. The judges were particularly impressed by his superior craftsmanship – and also his age. “When I went to collect my prize, they asked me: ‘Why didn’t your father come to collect his prize?’ ‘What do you mean my father, I am Luigi Prina!’ They were quite upset by this,” said Luigi.

But it wasn’t until 50 years had passed that Luigi was inspired to make his model ships fly. “I met Eugenio Tomiolo, a Venetian painter and boat builder,” he said. “And then I said to him: ‘Do you want to bet that I can make the boats fly for you?’ And I made the first boat. I made it fly in his studio. He had painted his ceiling like a sky with clouds. When the ship began to go around the ceiling it seemed as if the clouds were moving.”

“He was really enthusiastic,” Luigi recalled. “When I saw him a few years later, the first thing he said to me was: ‘You know that those clouds moved?’”

It has now been 20 years since Luigi’s retirement and he’s spent all that time creating over 200 flying ships. They’re really beautiful – elegantly designed, with an ethereal appeal. Each boat is optimized for flight. They are light in weight (20 to 50 grams) and aerodynamic in shape. The body is fashioned out of very thin paper and balsa wood. And there’s no engine powering the propeller. Just an elastic band, which is mainly responsible for carrying the extremely light ships. The bands are made from pure Indian rubber, imported from Japan. They are the only elastic bands in the world that can last for over 20 years.

Aviation and literature are Luigi’s passions – he combines the two to weave beautiful stories out of his winged bicycles and boats.

Japanese Attend Crying Seminars to Improve Physical and Mental Health

crying-seminars-Japan-550x309

I’ve heard of laughter therapy for relieving stress, but I didn’t know the reverse existed as well. In Japan, people gather in groups to let the boo-hoos out. These ‘crying seminars’ are conducted by Takashi Saga, who calls himself a ‘tears sommelier’. “Selecting wines that matches food is similar to my job,” he said. “I introduce books, movies and videos that touch the people’s emotion.”

“Crying doesn’t have a good image in Japan,” Saga added. “People believe you should not cry in front of people, that it’s weak.” So twice a month, Saga organizes a ‘ruikatsu’ – a crying for joy seminar. When people get emotional and cry, he believes that life’s burdens, tensions and frustrations melt away. “Laughing can only release stress at that moment. But studies show the stress release from crying lasts for a week. Crying is better for your physical and mental health.”

It turns out that Saga might actually be right. Some scientific studies have proven that when we cry for emotional reasons, our tears contain the same kind of hormones released by the body during physical stress. Most people start his sessions with a poker face and a ‘try and make me’ kind of attitude. But the activities that Saga plans for his class always ensure that no one leaves dry-eyed.

For instance, this one session started off with a traditional story teller narrating a sad tale. This was followed by a video of emotional scenes with Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ playing in the background. Pretty soon, everyone in the room was crying. Aya Nemoto, a participant, said: “The story about parent and child touches my emotion, and I can’t stop crying. I released my stress here.”

“I became highly emotional and couldn’t stop crying. I hardly cry at home, but I cried here,” said Kengo Tsuda.

“When people cry here, they always show us a big smile at the end of the session,” said Saga.

Workers at a Mississippi funeral home say they found a man alive and kicking when they opened a body bag.

Holmes County Coroner Dexter Howard calls it a miracle that 78-year-old Walter Williams is alive.

The coroner was called to Williams’ home in Lexington, a community north of Jackson, where family members believed he had died.

Howard says Williams had no pulse and was pronounced dead Wednesday at 9 p.m.

Early Thursday, workers at Porter and Sons Funeral Home were preparing to embalm Williams when he started to kick in the body bag.

Family members were called and Williams was taken to a hospital. Howard says he believes Williams’ pacemaker stopped working, then started again.

Family members say Williams, a farmer, told them he’s happy to be alive.

Man Brutally Attacks Bus Driver Then Tastes His Blood

RAW_Bus_Assault_Video_warni

A city bus driver in Washington state was brutally beaten when he confronted an unhinged passenger for swearing at other riders, a video shows.

The driver, who was not identified, needed to be taken to a hospital after Tuesday’s attack, which occurred on an Intercity Transit bus on the west side of Olympia, local KOMO-TV reported. Security video showed the driver warning the burly rider to stop harassing passengers before stopping the bus and ordering him off.

During an argument, the rider said, “If you hit me in the face, we will fight to death.” The driver tried to shove the man off, and the man hit him in the face, sending the driver sprawling into a row of seats. The man then pummeled the driver in the face and head, striking him more than a dozen times. At one point, as another rider struggled to pull the attacker off, he bizarrely mocked the driver.

“You bleeding?” the man screams.

“Yea,” the bus driver replies.

“Is that real blood? Let me taste it,” the man says, before touching the man’s face and appearing to lick his finger.

Other passengers called 911, but the man split before cops arrived. He was later arrested at a downtown transit station on suspicion of third-degree assault. The driver was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and released on Tuesday night.

It’s Impossible To Complete East-West Road In 2014 – Minister

file: bad portion on East-West road

file: bad portion on East-West road

Despite the assurances by the former Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe that the East West Road would be completed and commissioned by the end of this year, the Supervising Minister of the ministry, Mr. Dairus Ishaku has said that the completion of the road by the end of 2014 would be a mirage.

The minister who disclosed this yesterday at the budget defence of the ministry’s 2014 budget proposal said that even if the entire budget for the ministry for the fiscal year which was N49.2 billion was channeled to the East West Road including the intervention fund from the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, it would not be enough to complete the project.

The former minister had told the Senate Committee on SURE-P few weeks before his resignation that the ministry required the sum of N113 billion to complete the East West road just as he gave assurance that the road would be completed by December this year.

Elder Orubebe further stated that one of the problems responsible for the completion of the road that was awarded in 2006 apart from the security challenge was because the project was awarded without detailed designs and drawings.

Besides, he noted that N236 billion had been spent on the N349.8 billion project and that injecting additional N113 billion would ensure the completion and commission of the project.

But the Supervising Minister, Niger Delta Affairs said because of grossly inadequate and dwindling budgetary allocation to the ministry, it would not be possible to realize the 2014 deadline as the completion time for the East-West road.

He said for the East-West road to be completed and commissioned, a total of N111 billion was required, adding that his ministry was constrained particularly about funding which would make it impossible to deliver the project by the end of 2014 as promised.

“We cannot deliver East-West road by December this year due to funding gap. In 2013 we got some funding from SURE-P, and ADB since what we had was not sufficient. Because of shortfall, we will not be able to commission this project by December unless there is additional funding.”

The minister noted that in the 2014 budget, N46.8 billion was made available for capital project and out of which, N8.73 billion would be for the continuation of the East-West road, an amount that he lamented was a far cry from the N111 billion additional fund needed to complete the road project which he said had been 78 per cent completed.

Ishaku also stated that if there should be additional intervention from any place and it did not reach the ministry before the rains set in, it would not be possible to complete the project as work would slow down at the peak of rainy season.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator James Manager lampooned the ministry that since the creation of the Niger Delta Ministry, there was no single project commissioned, even as he frowned at the dwindling budgetary allocation for the ministry.

Senator Manager had lamented that at the creation of the ministry in 2008, N144 billion was allocated to the ministry but regretted that as each year passed, the allocation continued to go down.

He said, “East-West road is key, very important no matter other road projects you intend to embark on, for economic reason that region is important,” stressing that the East-West road was the number two project inherited by the ministry of Niger Delta on establishment.

Senator Manager explained that the situation in the ministry and the delay in the completion of the East-West road was provocative going by the economic importance of the road to the country. [Vanguard]

Fuel Scarcity Worsens In Lagos

queue for fuel

Petroleum industry officials had last week blamed the worsening fuel scarcity across the Lagos metropolis on the recent oil spill at the Ijegun area of the state.

The spill which flooded over 300 houses in the area, forced the officials of the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) to lock the valve so as to forestall further spill.

The arising shortfall in the supply of the product had triggered a wave of scarcity, a situation many would think should be over now. Scarcity however persists in Lagos. In fact, it got worse on Friday with queues noticed at the few filling stations that sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). There were also rumours, Friday, that some filling stations sold fuel more than the normal pump price of N97.

Long queues were noticed on several filling stations along Ikorodu road. There were also reports of scarcity on some parts of the Island.

On his part, President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has linked the lingering fuel scarcity across the country to the delay of cargo ship awaiting clearance at the high sea by security operatives.

“I totally disagree with insinuations that marketers are hoarding products at the filling station,” Abdulkadir Aminu said in Abuja on Thursday.

No one is sure for now what has caused the scarcity which is fast spreading across Lagos. Lagosians will however be hoping things go back to normal over the weekend.

Dozens Arrested In UK, Spain, US Over Fraud

arrested oyibo

More than 100 people have been arrested in Spain, Britain, Serbia and the United States over a massive scam that tricked people into buying millions of pounds of worthless shares, British police say.

Spanish and British officers launched a joint operation against criminal gangs behind the so-called “boiler room” fraud, said the City of London police on Friday.

The arrests were made on Tuesday but can now be disclosed after a Spanish judge lifted a reporting ban.

Eighty-four of the 110 arrests were in the Spanish cities of Madrid, Barcelona and Marbella, 20 were in London, four in Serbia and two in the United States, police said.

The operation closed down 14 boiler rooms in Spain, two in Britain and one in Serbia.

Items including an Aston Martin, Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, a Mustang car, designer clothes, watches and cash in various denominations were also seized.

City of London Police Commander Steve Head said it was a “landmark” two-year investigation with Spain’s Policia Nacional.

“It is our most important investigation ever, targeting people we believe are at the top of an organised crime network that has been facilitating boiler rooms across Europe and which is suspected of being responsible for millions of pounds of investment fraud,” said Head.

“Boiler room” fraud – made famous by a 2000 film starring Oscar-winner Ben Affleck – involves investors being duped into buying worthless or non-existent shares.

Female Serial Killer Jailed For Life In The UK

sentence

Judge Robin Spencer,Friday sentenced a British female serial killer who admitted murdering three men and dumping their bodies in ditches has been sentenced to a life in prison without parole at the Old Bailey court in London.

Joanna Dennehy, 31, had expressed no remorse for killing the men, who she knew, although she apologised for two attempted murders of strangers while she was on the run last year.

“You are a cruel, calculating, selfish and manipulative serial killer,” Judge Spencer told Dennehy during her sentence.

She had earlier pleaded guilty to murdering Lukasz Slaboszewski, 31, Kevin Lee, 48, and John Chapman, 56, in and around Peterborough in eastern England over a ten-day period in March 2013.

All three were stabbed to death and the bodies left in ditches. The body of Lee, Dennehy’s landlord with whom she was having an affair, was dressed in a black sequin dress and arranged in what the court heard was a s*xual pose.

Dennehy went on the run when the bodies were found, to Hereford on the border with Wales, where she repeatedly stabbed two randomly-chosen dog walkers, Robin Bereza and John Rogers. They survived.

“Within the space of ten days you murdered three men in cold blood. Although you pleaded guilty, you’ve made it quite clear you have no remorse,” the judge told Dennehy, who laughed and smirked as she was sentenced.

“Only a matter of days later you attempted to kill two more men – victims chosen entirely at random. Miraculously they survived.

The judge said Dennehy had written to him saying she was not sorry for the murders, and said she told a psychiatrist: “I killed to see how I would feel, to see if I was as cold as I thought I was, then it got more-ish.”

Three men were also sentenced for helping Dennehy, including Gary Stretch, who went on the run with her and waited in the car while she attacked Bereza and Rogers.

The 47-year-old was told he would serve at least 19 years in jail after being found guilty in an earlier trial of two counts of attempted murder and three counts of preventing the lawful burial of a body.

Sanusi Is A Politician, Not A Banker

Sanusiimages1.jpg

Former governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP in Delta State, Olorogun Great Ovedje Ogboru has described Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as a politician and activist who wants to function as a banker, saying that his suspension by President Goodluck Jonathan was long overdue.

Ogboru who made this known during an interactive session with journalists, said the manner at which Mallam Sanusi has been conducting himself since he assumed office in 2009 was worrisome, adding that the office of a CBN governor is a sensitive one that requires decorum and not noise-making as Sanusi portrayed it.

He stated further, “Sanusi is a politician and activist who wants to function as a banker which is not possible in view of the sensitive and conservative nature of the office of the CBN Governor. Sanusi lacks decorum and this is unbecoming of the position of a central bank governor who is supposed to be conservative .

“It is against the ethics of public administration for an employee of a government to be fighting against the system which he is part of, with a view to pulling the government down. Sanusi has turned himself to a politician and activist and this is unbecoming of a professional banker.

You cannot combine politics and activism with banking and expect things to be alright. The three are not mutually related. So if Sanusi wants to be a politician and activist, he should resign his appointment and when he fails to do so, the president has every right to suspend him, so that he can face his politics and activism”.

The Vatican is about to unveil a Facebook page for Pope Francis, as part of its strategy to expand the Catholic Church’s presence on social media, according to reports yesterday.

The pope already has nine different-language profiles on Twitter, attracting more than 12 million followers.

His predecessor, Benedict XVI, opened the accounts in December 2012.

“ The Vatican is just working on some final technical aspects before the Pope’s Facebook page is made visible to the public,” specialised website Vatican Insider said.

The Vatican was not immediately available for comment.

The report added that IT experts are working to prevent offensive or inappropriate messages appearing on the pope’s Facebook page before it is opened to the public.

In January, Francis said that the internet can help spread God’s message, noting that it offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity.

Army Refutes Boko Haram Attack On Nyako’s Convoy, Kills 13 Terrorists

Army

The Nigerian Army Friday refuted reports that Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State was attacked by terrorists and that more terrorists have been arrested while 13 of them died following a raid on their make-shift camp sited between Borno and Adamawa states.

The army in a statement signed by Major General Chris Olukolade, Director Defence Information, said that some of those who escaped from earlier raid have also been picked up in Maiduguri and environs.

Meanwhile, calm has returned to Shuwa after the pandemonium generated by the panic in the community yesterday, when people sighted the convoy of troops going after terrorists and mistook it for another round of attack.

The statement said the alleged attack on the convoy of Governor Nyako as presented in a breaking news report were not true.

“The truth is that the Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako visited Michika and Shuwa areas of the State to sympathise with the communities that were attacked by terrorists recently. While returning, the convoy came across a noticeable pandemonium which resulted from the alarm raised by some people who had mistaken a convoy movement of troops on patrol at Kirchinga village, for another impending attack by terrorists. In the ensuing stampede and confusion, people scampered into the bush ostensibly to escape from those mistaken for terrorists.

“The incident which was presented as a “Breaking News” and scrolled on TV is therefore not a true reflection of what actually happened. The report is capable of causing unnecessary anxiety and heightening tension.

“The military authorities therefore find it necessary to put the records straight and call on residents to go about their normal activities while remaining vigilant. The operations in the North East are being consolidated and every effort is made to stop the terrorists from continuing their atrocities in that part of the country,” the statement said. [Vanguard]

Nollywood Actresses Who Lack Good Acting Skills (Photos)

t's obvious that Nollywood is full of talented actors and actresses. However, some are not really good in the acting business, but they still remain on top of their games due to their beauty and maybe controversies. Here is a list of few of such actresses.

1)Juliet Ibrahim - Juliet is a very beautiful and curvy actress, but she tops this list because she is not good in the acting business. Juliet lacks the facial expressions needed to convey the message her roles require. It's obvious that Juliet gets roles because of her beauty.
2)Lilian Bach - Lilian and Juliet are in the Same category. Lilian is very hot and beautiful. Lilian's beauty can make a monk fall, but her acting skill is nothing to write home about.
3) Angela Okorie - Angela is a very pretty actress. Her beauty is the main thing that brings roles to her. At the moment, she is the most sought after actress after Mercy Johnson. But Angela can't act very well and convincingly. She knows this and even admitted it herself. " When I started, I wasn’t really good at the job, but I’ve improved a lot", Angela said in a recent interview. But, has she really improved?
4)Ruky Sanda - Ruky is simply an over rated actress. She can't really act.
5)Eve Esin - I can't watch any film featuring Eve, unless there are several other good actors in the film. Eve keeps soaring higher despite her poor acting skills.
6)Regina Askia - Regina is very beautiful with hazel eyes. An ex-beauty queen, but Regina couldn't really act very convincingly when she was still active in the industry. Although she later improved before her relocation.
7)Tonto Dikeh- I know many will be shocked to find Tonto's name here. Well, Tonto is not that good in acting; her diction is not always good, sometimes she over acts. Tonto manages to remain relevant with controversies. Nevertheless, Tonto's best role was in 'The Illiterate '.

Who else is missing in this list? Remind me. Who do you think should not be on this list?

10 Types of 3D Graphics Software Worth Knowing

So you want to be a 3D artist, but you don’t know which software to choose? Whether you’re a newcomer to art programs or incredibly experienced, here are the first 10 3D modeling programs you should check out and consider using:
view counter
LightWave 3D (NewTek) As sort of the odd ball in the bunch, LightWave 3D comes as two separate programs: Modeler and Layout. The first has a wide array of modeling options, and Layout allows users to animate and render. Its hypervoxel particle system and shaders have been advanced enough in the past to be used in several Hollywood films, although in recent years it has lost some of its popularity in the industry.
Blender (The Blender Foundation) - Most product packages on this list allow users to model, unwrap, texture, skin, rig, animate, render, and even simulate physics and particle effects. Blender does all of that as well, but unlike the rest, it’s completely free! Its install is also dramatically smaller than its competition, and it even has hundreds of free classes and tutorials available online for its community. If you’re a newcomer to 3D graphics software, you’d be foolish to not start here.
3ds Max (Autodesk) - All experienced 3D artists owe it to themselves to try 3D Studio Max, and a large portion of the industry’s veterans agree that no other 3D package is more robust and impressive. It’s capable of just about every feature and niche artists will ever need, and in ways that most software can’t compete with. Autodesk knows it, too, which is why its one flaw is its high price tag, but for top tier professionals it’s worth every penny and pixel.
Maya (Autodesk) - What was once 3ds Max’s leading competitor, Maya was bought by Autodesk in 2005 and the two have been like dueling twins ever since. It was originally thought that Max would be the leading 3D design software for games, and Maya would be the leader for the film industry, but each is still currently ubiquitous in both industries. Many believe that 3D Studio Max is more robust for modeling and lighting, and that Maya simplifies animation in more enjoyable ways for artists.
Cinema 4D (Maxon) - Cinema 4D has been gaining more and more momentum each year and is starting to creep up on the top names in the industry. Its gigantic features list proves that it’s a 3D software package that’s every bit as extensive as 3ds Max or Maya. It continues to grow more popular in the movie industry each year, with dozens of big budget titles listing Cinema 4D in their credits.
Softimage (Autodesk) - After being initiated in 2000, its runaway success led to it being bought by Autodesk in 2008. Since then, Softimage has evolved to come with content pipeline support for major game engines including Crytek's CryENGINE 2, Valve Source, Emergent GameBryo, Microsoft XNA, and Epic Unreal Technology 3. That, combined with its advanced facial animation toolset, FaceRobot, is why dozens of next gen game titles have utilized it in recent years.
ZBrush (Pixologic) - All the others on the list thus far have been software that come as complete packages that try to fill all the 3D artist’s needs, but ZBrush instead tries to cater entirely to those who only want to model and texture extremely detailed high poly 3D art. The program focuses on a “sculpting” approach that gives artists the feeling that they’re working with digital clay, which allows for impressive renders to be created very quickly.
Mudbox (Autodesk) - Next generation game consoles have pumped up the demand for higher polygon counts, but normal maps still need to be placed on low poly models. This 3D sculpting software was founded by former Weta Digital artists and was incredibly low maintenance and efficient. In an effort to compete with Pixologic’s ZBrush, Autodesk acquired Mudbox from Skymatter in 2006, and has improved it since then.
Modo (Luxology) - Made by many of those who were responsible for the birth of LightWave 3D, Modo started after a disagreement on how to continue to develop software at NewTek. Luxology was created, and then all the code was rewritten from scratch for a different approach to memory management and mesh manipulation options. Just like ZBrush, Modo users can paint textures right onto their 3D models.

Get to know 3D with our 3D FAQs

What is 3D?
3D entertainment brings the excitement of the 3D cinema experience to the home. The 3D effect gives images more depth and realism meaning you can immerse yourself in sport, movies and PlayStation® games like never before.
Are all 3D technologies the same?
No. Different manufacturers use different technologies in their 3D TVs. These can involve a different set-up, for example without 3D glasses, and offer varying results in terms of picture quality. It is worth spending some time researching the benefits of each.
What is 3D from Sony?
3D technology from Sony is based on the High Frame Rate of a BRAVIA 3D TV sending pictures to specialist Active Shutter glasses. BRAVIA 3D TVs use high speed precision to display different TV pictures consecutively to the left and right eye of the Active Shutter 3D glasses. Each lens of the glasses is filled with liquid crystal which closes for a fragment of a second so that only one eye at a time sees the relevant Full HD picture.

What are the benefits of 3D from Sony?
The specialist 3D technology developed by Sony offers a number of benefits:
  • Full High Definition pictures with no ‘ghosting’ or ‘double-imaging’
  • Minimised flicker from lights, lamps or other light sources in the room
  • Excellent picture brightness so you can watch in all light conditions
  • Wide viewing angle so you can enjoy 3D TV from around the room
  • Comfortable, adjustable 3D glasses which are designed to keep light out
Can I try 3D before I buy?
Yes, ask in your local store. We also have a number of 3D demonstrations in stores throughout the country.
Can 3D pictures cause dizziness and nausea?
Just like any display, we recommend you don’t keep watching continually without a break. If you notice any side effects, it is best to stop and get advice.

3D home entertainment set up

What do I need to enjoy 3D TV, movies or games at home?
The basic set up you will need is:
  • a 3D TV (or a 3D Capable TV with added 3D transmitter accessory)
  • 3D glasses compatible with your 3D TV
With just this set up you’ll be able to watch 3D TV channels as they become available, view 3D photos and convert normal 2D TV pictures into 3D.

If you want to enjoy movies or games especially created for showing in 3D, you’ll also need a:
  • 3D Blu-ray Disc™ player or PlayStation®3 (if your device is 3D Ready it will be updated to full 3D capabilities via a firmware update)
  • High speed HDMI cable to connect your 3D devices
What do 3D Capable and 3D Ready mean?
3D Capable TV or 3D Ready Blu-ray Disc™ player or PlayStation®3 has the capability to be fully 3D in the future. With a 3D Capable TV you will need to add a 3D transmitter and 3D glasses to make it fully 3D capable. 3D Ready Blu-ray Disc™ players and PlayStation®3 models will be automatically upgraded to full 3D via firmware updates.

How do I use a 3D Sync Transmitter?
To upgrade a 3D Capable TV to a full 3D TV you’ll need a 3D Sync Transmitter accessory. This is best placed below or to the side of your TV, with a direct line of sight to wherever you’re sitting with your 3D glasses. The infrared signal from a 3D transmitter from Sony has a wide range. It means you can see 3D pictures from around the room and don’t have to sit directly in front of the screen for the best experience.
Do I need to wear 3D glasses?
Yes, but not the old style green and red glasses you may be used to. 3D TVs from Sony display Full HD 3D images using Active Shutter technology. Being able to watch Full HD 3D images without glasses is likely to take years to develop.

Can I use 3D cinema glasses with a 3D TV from Sony?
No, we use a different technology. Our Active Shutter technology delivers superior picture quality and a better overall experience for TVs than the polarising 3D technology developed for big screen cinemas.
Can I use cardboard glasses with red or blue lenses to watch my 3D TV?
No, you will need to use special Active Shutter glasses from Sony to watch your 3D TV. We have developed this technology as it delivers Full HD pictures, smooth 3D action and high brightness levels. It offers better picture quality and a more immersive 3D experience.
Why are 3D glasses from Sony different?
A. We have designed our 3D glasses to deliver the optimum 3D experience. They are specially designed to work with BRAVIA 3D TV technology which delivers 3D pictures in Full High Definition.
