Jonathan’s Presidency Is Divine, Legitimate And Constitutional — Bode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George believes that the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan is divine.

George aired his belief in Lagos, at the grand finale of South-West PDP Women Empowerment Programme, organised by the Leader, House of Representatives, Mulikat Akande-Adeola, urging those against the endorsement given the president as PDP’s sole candidate for the 2015 presidential election to accept Jonathan has been chosen by God and stop antagonising him.

“I want to appeal to my brothers, who are opposed to his endorsement by the party leadership for a second term, it is divine. Let him also do what is legitimate, it is constitutional,” he said.

George’s relationship with Jonathan dates back to years of facing a 30 month jail term for charges that included contracts splitting and inflation. The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) (now defunct) in 2011 alleged that the PDP was striking a vote-for-pardon deal with the former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

“If Bode George delivers Lagos, he will receive a state pardon for his corruption conviction for which he spent two years in the gulag,” the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement at the time. George could not deliver Lagos State as Governor Babtunde Fashola won the governorship election for the second time.

However, more than three years after serving his jail term in Kirikiri Maximum Prison, the Supreme Court reversed the conviction of George. In June this year, President Goodluck Jonathan also appointed Roli Bode-George, wife of Chief Olabode George, as the new Director General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Speaking further on why Jonathan should be elected again, George said it was legitimate for President Jonathan to want to contest for second term in office as he had done so much for the people of the South-West in particular and Nigeria in general.

George also said the president’s record of achievements was also there for people to see in areas of road construction, oil offshore production in Lagos capable of providing jobs for thousands of unemployed Nigerians, rehabilitation of railways, among others.

According to him, the PDP deserved to win all the states in the zone because it had done much for the zone but which he said was under-reported.
