Boko Haram: 200 Igbo People Have Been Killed In Borno – Group

Boko-Haram

A socio-cultural group for Igbo people residing in Borno State, Igbo Welfare Association (IWA), weekend, said more than 200 members of the Igbo community have been killed and their property worth millions of naira destroyed since insurgency began in the state.

President general of the association in the state, Chief Maclaw Nwaogu, said this during the inauguration of the new executives and award ceremony at Barwee International Hotel in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He therefore appealed to Governor Kashim Shettima to assist the Ndigbo who have become widows and orphans as a result of the attacks, as well as other non-indigenes. Many of them, according to him, had migrated but still suffers destitution as a result of the loss of their breadwinners to the Boko Haram insurgency.

Borno is one of the states in Nigeria’s northeast hardest hit by the Boko Haram insurgency, which has claimed more than 10,000 lives in the country.

Amaechi Has Transformed Rivers State — Peterside

 Mr Dakuku Peterside

Mr Dakuku Peterside

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Mr Dakuku Peterside believes that Governor Rotimi Amaechi has laid a formidable foundation of service delivery in the state. He therefore said there was no reason for him not to perform well if he emerges governor in the 2015 general elections, with such foundations in place.

Addressing supporters at Kono Waterfront shortly after he collected his Permanent Voter Card in Opobo Town Ward 3, at the weekend, Peterside thanked Amaechi for his efforts in making Rivers State great.

“He is a visionary leader who came and transformed the state. He has laid a solid foundation for me.

Speaking further, he said: “I am surprised to meet you people of Kono here because, I didn’t contact anybody to gather you here to meet with me. But, I believe, you heard I was coming home and I will pass through this route to my town, Opobo, that was why you decided to gather here to receive me. Let me remind you all that Kono and Opobo have been two neighbouring towns, which share common interests. I am sure that nearly every Opobo person has a family in Kono and I know that if I come to Kono, every Kono person will receive me into their homes. I think, this is a time that every Kono person should begin to kneel down and thank God for locating us.”

He promised that, if voted into power, his administration in the state will eliminate poverty and build on the economic potentials of the state to achieve a better life for everyone.

“When we assume power in 2015, I will wipe out poverty. I will ensure that the economic potentials are realistic in building a new Rivers State, and that I believe we can do with the help of God Almighty. All we need to do is to give our leaders support,” said Peterside.

Why Obasanjo’s War With Jonathan Has Not Ended

goodluck-jonathan

The feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan might have been caused by vice-president Nnmadi Sambo, Nigerian Tribune has learnt.

Citing sources in Abuja, the Ibadan-based newspaper said Obasanjo had sent emissaries to Jonathan that he would back his 2015 ambition if he (Jonathan) agreed to drop Vice-President Namadi Sambo as his running mate, in favour of Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.

This was said to have emerged as some common friends of the former president and Jonathan attempted to talk Obasanjo into dropping his opposition against the president.

The sources also told Nigerian Tribune that the former president had confirmed the proposal at a recent encounter between him and Jonathan.

“The president could not give Obasanjo any affirmative answer, because he believes that the request was uncalled for,” a source said, adding that Jonathan believed that dropping Sambo would cause ripples in his camp.

“You don’t try and solve a problem and create another in the process,” a source said, adding that Sambo had worked assiduously with Jonathan without frictions.

While the feud between Obasanjo and Jonathan deepens, the former president have found unlikely friends in the All Progressives Congress, several of which have visited him frequently lately. Party leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has gone to see Obasanjo twice in the last two months.

Passengers Protest Arik Flight Cancellation At Abuja Airport

Nnamdi-Azikiwe-International-Airport-Abuja-360x225

A protest broke out on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja (NAIA), Abuja, on one of Arik Air’s flights scheduled for Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state.

According to the Protesting passengers, Arik was in the habit of cancelling flights schedule to Ilorin airport at will.

Sources at the airport told Thisday that the travellers became infuriated when the airline announced that its second flight to Ilorin had been cancelled.

“The only way to make our position known is through this mild demonstration and mild protest to send the right signal to the airline management and government,” a passenger was quoted as saying.

Arik has been accused by many passengers in the past of poor customer service, despite being the costliest local airline. Several delays and cancellations have made several passengers look for alternative airlines.

“I was waiting for my 5:30 flight when Arik workers came to ask if I could join a delayed flight that was just leaving some minutes past five. I was delayed in the rain for several minutes before I was allowed to enter the aircraft. That was not the first time I have experienced such treatment at the hands of Arik,” a business man recounted his experience while returning to Lagos from a meeting at Abuja.

Arik spokesman Mr. Banji Ola, however explained that the incident in which a domestic carrier veered off the runway at the Ilorin Airport on Saturday, prompted the control tower to direct the carrier to cancel the flight.

Boko Haram insurgents

Dozens have been feared dead in a fresh attack on Shani, a town in the southern part of Borno State, during a siege on it by members of the Boko Haram sect on Saturday night. Shani is about 260 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

According to Thisday, some fleeing residents spoke to journalists on phone, saying over 30 armed Boko Haram fighters on motorcycles stormed Shani on Saturday night. They were said to have thrown bombs at houses.

“The terrorists came at about 8pm and started shooting at everything in sight. The gunshots were deafening and kept approaching my house that I had to run into the bush with my grow up children,” One of the fleeing residents, Elijah Ibrahim was quoted as saying.

“I had to however leave my wife and my little children with her believing they would do them no harm, I slept in the bush with two grown ones and without going back into the town proceeded to Biu this morning,” he explained.

The resident also claimed that the insurgents set houses on fire to force residents out.

A military source in Biu confirmed the attack to Thisday. According to the source, the insurgents burnt down a police station and other public buildings. A telecoms mast was also said to have been destroyed.

Terrorists Will Be Held Accountable — Jonathan

Federal High Court complex, Asaba

President Goodluck Jonathan, weekend, promised that all perpetrators of terrorist acts in Nigeria would be held accountable.

Jonathan made this known when he commissioned the Federal High Court complex, Asaba, Delta State.

According to him, the presence of Federal High Courts in virtually every state of the federation is a good development as it would bring justice closer to the people. This, he said, is in line with his administration’s determined efforts to expand access to justice for the people and ensure that Nigerians are able to access the courts for the purposes of resolving their disputes.

Speaking through the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Jonathan commended the Chief Judge and other judges of the court “for their hard work and support for his administration’s resolve to hold all the perpetrators of terrorist acts across the country accountable.

“I have been duly informed that the practice directions issued by the court have contributed significantly to the reduction of trial delays and engendered speedy trial of terrorism and allied offences. It is my fervent hope that this edifice will further provide the necessary conducive environment for the court to excel in the discharge of its adjudicatory function,” he said.

In his speech, Governor Uduaghan expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for creating the Asaba Division of the Federal High Court in the state.

He also commended the erection of the High Court Complex, stressing that it “was built by the Federal Government and not the Delta State Government. The only contribution of the Delta State Government was the provision of land for this edifice.”

In view of this, the governor vowed the unwavering support of the state for the Federal Government, in its developmental efforts.

Time is Ripe For Legislation On e-commerce – Udeh

ecom-3

As the rapid growth of e-commerce continues in Nigeria, President/CEO of Shoptomydoor, Nduka Udeh has called for a legislation that will protect the businesses and consumers in order to drive growth and boost opportunities.

According to Udeh, who spoke to Vanguard in an interview, the lack of legislation for the industry especially as regards consumer protection, has significantly affected the pace at which the industry is growing in the country.

“Government does not have a policy on e-commerce. Look at Consumer Protection Council, CPC for example. The legislation establishing the CPC, the last update on consumer protection, was in 1992. Till date, I don’t know of any updated consumer protection law that caters to e-commerce,” he said.

Giving an example on why it is important to have a legislation, Udeh said if a consumer buys items online, and it is not delivered, he should have a regulatory body that he can go to seek redress.

“If there is a law in place protecting the consumer, there will be an explosion in patronage in e-commerce. But because we don’t have that, a lot of people are scared. This is because the people are not sure that if they place any order that they will receive it or know what to do even if they receive it, but the item does not meet their standards.”

“These are some of the concerns that discourage people from embracing e-commerce. It is to counter some of these challenges that you see some of the companies like Jumia and Konga coming up with pay on delivery. Is it a good method? It is not. This is because it leads to high operating cost on the part of these businesses. It reduces their profit and it has lots of negative effects on them as a business, preventing them from expanding. But in Nigeria, it is there because the consumers do not trust the online platform,” he added.

He therefore called on the government to enact laws on e-commerce in support of a potential e-commerce boom in the country, which is dependent on the right, supportive policies.

pry schl

The federal government signed a $3.7 million (N660,634,999) deal with offshore sports equipment manufacturers at the weekend, to equip about 1,000 primary schools across the country with sport facilities.

Nine primary schools in each senatorial district across the six-geo-political zones of the country will benefit from the project.

Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Government Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, while speaking at the signing ceremony, said that the project was to increase the nation’s talent base. He called it the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria. It will also put to rest the impression that government had failed to discover, nurture and promote talents at their tender age for a better result.

The deal was signed between the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) and China Sports International Corporation Limited, and CAAN Sports Organisation Limited, Turkey.

Executive Secretary of the NLTF, Engr. Habu Gumel, said the deal with the China firm was worth $2.8 million (N501 million), while the one with Turkey Company was $914, 967 (N164 million). He disclosed that the money for the deal was generated from lottery activities.

“The contracts involve the supply of various branded sports equipment covering nine types of sports designed for primary schools, namely; athletics, volleyball, football, handball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, judo and Taekwondo,” he said.

Gumel noted that the intervention programme was designed to promote grassroots sports development, while expanding the nation’s talent base, as a way of addressing the issue of dearth of talent in different sporting activities in the country.

“We intend to distribute sports equipment to about 1,000 primary schools nation-wide, with at least nine primary schools benefiting in each senatorial districts across the six geo-political zones, re-affirming our vision to promote social inclusion among all Nigerians.

“We have put in place a robust and comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system to help NLTF track the process of its intervention programmes,” the NLTF boss concluded.

7 Temptations That Can Ruin Your Relationship

07 There are a few temptations that can ruin your relationship, no matter how much you love your man. Unfortunately, we sometimes have desires that lead to destruction and ruin even the strongest relationships. That’s why I decided to share this list of 7 temptations that can ruin your relationship that you need to be aware of.

1. Constant lying

When you did something that you know your boyfriend or husband wouldn’t approve of, it can be tempting to lie to him about it. While it can be easy to lie, your lies will haunt you down the road. If you really love each other, you should never be afraid to tell the truth, no matter how hard it can be. A strong relationship is never based on lies. Remember it.

2. Desire to cheat on your partner

One of the worst temptations that ruin your relationships is the desire to cheat on your partner. If you are in a long lasting relationship and you meet another man, everything can become so complicated. The only way to maintain your relationship strong is to refuse to give into that dangerous temptation, if you really love your partner.

3. Stealing your partner’s things

When you are in a long term-relationship and you are living together, it can be tempting to steal your partner’s clothes or cash without asking him. While many couples are okay with it, others are not comfortable. Your boyfriend/husband has the right to know what you take or how much money you take. Don’t take anything without his permission and you will avoid lots of fights.

4. Spending more time with friends

When you are in a very long-term relationship, you might get jealous of all of the parties and free time your friends (especially single ones) have. But, don’t allow the temptation of alone time to ruin your relationship. Don’t forget that you can spend time with your friends; you just need to discuss it with your partner and rearrange your schedule.

5. Putting no effort into your relationship

Once you have been together for a long time, you may feel so comfortable that you may stop putting effort into your relationship. While comfort is a great thing, it can be dangerous as well. No matter how long you’ve been together, you still have to put effort into your relationship to make it last.

6. Constant fights

When you are in a bad mood, it’s so easy to scream at your partner to let out your emotions, however, he could get hurt and it can lead to numerous fights. Don’t risk upsetting your partner, scream into a pillow if you are tempted to vent. It may sound funny, but it’s actually work. Never blame your sweetheart for problems that he didn’t cause. It’s one of the best ways to keep your relationship strong.

7. Taking your partner’s efforts for granted

Just because you can walk all over him, doesn’t mean you should do it. If he washes your clothes for you and makes you breakfast every single morning, let him know that his hard work is highly appreciated. Treat your partner with respect and don’t take his efforts for granted.

It can be hard to keep the relationship strong, especially if one of the partners put no effort into it. If you want your relationship to stay strong, make sure you don’t act on the aforementioned dangerous desires. There’s nothing wrong with you, if you have these desires, but just don’t act on them and ensure your partner doesn’t act on them as well. Which one of these desires is the most difficult for you to avoid succumbing to? Do you know any other temptations that can ruin a strong relationship?

Don’t Lose Her – 11 Signs Your Girl Is A Keeper

TNMCoupleHappyDate What makes up a good girlfriend? How do you know when you have one? How do you become one?

1. She’s supportive: She’s a fan of all our endeavours, and doesn’t delight in belittling us, mocking our efforts or generally ruining our mojo. If we feel we have a mission or calling in life, then we need someone who will help, not hinder us.

2. She’s a good person: If we can’t think of half a dozen or so reasons why this is the case then ‘Houston, we have a problem.’ She’s sexy and I want to sleep with her do not count as good reasons that she’s a good person, by the way. Attraction and infatuation are all very good, but can lead you into the trap of an ‘instantly heavy’ relationship. These rarely last.

3. She’s honest: Even when it’s not easy to hear. We’ll get along just fine with a “yes” woman…for a while. But to build something lasting, we’ll need someone who is happy to call us on our bullshit. Also, an honest person who is not afraid to say how they feel about things will be less likely to say stuff to please us, and then put up with something they actually dislike — that’s the road to resentment, which can destroy relationships.

4. You can bring her home to meet your mom…or anywhere else, without being in a funk that her dress, or behavior or anything else is going to cause embarrassment. If she’s great fun for a night out, or in the bedroom, but nowhere else, then it’s a non-starter.

5. The chemistry is there: I don’t mean coke & mentos chemistry. Explosive is not what we’re after. I’m talking about sharing a sense of humor, making each other laugh, and having complimentary personalities. If this chemistry grows, not fades, then we know we’re onto a good thing.

6. The ‘ex’ factor: We all have them, but how we relate to them or describe our relationship with them says a lot about how available we are. If she’s still fighting with them, she’s probably not available, or could be demonstrating how things will end in your relationship. If she’s their best buddy, then that’s possibly not a great sign either.

7. The three F’s: Family, friends and faith (or lack of!) If she can’t respect these three areas of our life, then she’s not the one for us. Whatever our beliefs, she needs live with and respect them. She might not think all our friends are great, but she needs to not be too selective about which of them she wants to spend time around. If she does that, she’s making it harder for us to be around them, and effectively limiting our contact with them. That rings our ‘she’s trying to change who I am’ alarm bell.

8. She gives us space…To fix cars, climb mountains, play video games, put the world to rights over beers with our friends or whatever man-crap we need to do in our free time. Crying, fighting or sulking when we chose to do those things once in a while is not good.

9. She’s not our usual type: If we have a usual type, then we could be repeating relationship mistakes. Choosing not just the same physical type but the same toxic behavioural traits in women. The fact that things are different, and you’re a tall, quiet brunette when we have a trail of exes who are short bubbly blondes is a good indicator, rather than something to worry about.

10. She likes herself: Someone who isn’t comfortable in their own skin is holy hell to deal with. Occasional compliment fishing or looking for reassurance about something is on the normal scale. Someone looking for that stuff all the time shows no confidence, and will wear out even the most patient man.

11. She forgives easily: One grudge fosters resentment, and can destroy a relationship. Many grudges are a recipe for disaster. If she shows that she bears grudges and finds it difficult to forgive and move on where exes are concerned, with colleagues or in any area of life, then she’s not the one for us. We’re not looking for a pushover, but someone who understands that the past is the past and can leave it where it belongs.

4 Ways To Defend Yourself Against 4 Emotional Vampires

article-2014823811520242722000 Many of us are drawn to emotional vampires. From bullies, to clingy lovers, to complainers, emotional vampires wear many different disguises. Intentionally or not, these romantic partners can make us feel depressed, overwhelmed, defensive, wiped out, and angry.

It’s important to figure out why you choose to date people who deplete your energy. Then, you need to learn self-defense strategies to keep them at bay. If you don’t, you could become a victim of the emotional vampire and develop unhealthy behaviors and symptoms, such as overeating, isolating, mood swings, or fatigue.

Below are four common types of emotional vampires you may unwittingly get involved with, adapted from the book The Ecstasy of Surrender, along with some “silver bullet” tips for fending them off.

Type #1: The Passive-Aggressive Person. This type of vampire expresses anger with a smile or exaggerated concern but always maintains their cool. They are experts at sugar-coating hostility.

Self-defense Tips: Let go of self-doubt and trust your gut reactions. Tell yourself that you deserve to be treated more lovingly. Address their behavior. In a calm, firm tone you might say, “I would greatly appreciate it if you can be on time when we go out to dinner.” If nothing changes, keep setting limits with this person and scale back on the time you spend with them.

Type #2: The Narcissist. For this vampire, everything is about them. They are ego-centric, self-important, and starved for admiration and attention. They may be charming and intelligent until their guru status is threatened.

Self-defense Tips: Enjoy their good qualities, but have realistic expectations. Their motto is “me-first,” so getting angry or stating your needs won’t have any effect on them. Beware of this type, because narcissists lack empathy and are incapable of unconditional love. You may be able to get their cooperation by appealing to their self-interest and showing them how your request will benefit them.

Type #3: The Anger Addict. This vampire deals with conflict by accusing, attacking, humiliating, or criticizing. Some anger addicts withhold things, or resort to using the silent treatment to punish you.

Self-defense Tips: Don’t let their anger wear down your self-esteem. Pause when agitated. Take a few slow breaths to relax, and do not respond until you are in a centered place. Try to stay neutral and balanced, and disarm the person by agreeing with them or acknowledging their position. Then state your case. It’s also useful to empathize with anger addicts. Ask yourself what pain or inadequacy makes them so angry.

Type #4: The Guilt Tripper. These types are world-class blamers, martyrs, and drama queens. They know how to make you feel bad about something by pressing your insecurity buttons.

Self-defense Tips: Let go of the notion that you have to be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. If you feel really guilty, find a private place and let yourself cry. You can also reply with a positive statement such as, “I can see your point of view. But when you say ___, my feelings are hurt. I’d be grateful if you didn’t keep repeating it.”

6 Types Of Kisses Your Man Hates

kiss_19 They include

1. The Fish Tank Kiss

Every girl’s nightmare.

He’s totally cute, funny, the conversation is good – but then you kiss and it feels like he’s trying to clean the inside of your mouth as if it was a fish tank. As the minutes pass more slowly than you ever thought possible, you wonder if he’s actually looking for treasure. His tongue is too hard, and it darts about quickly and all pokey.

You are usually too stunned to decide whether you should wait it out or hold up a “send help” sign. Toss this one back into the sea.

2. The Chewing Gum Kiss

You’ve seen these before – a couple joined at the mouth, lips locked in a deep French-kissing session that looks like they’re about to gnaw each other’s head off.

Don’t worry, everyone will be fine, but this combination of French Kiss and Fish Tank Kiss with extreme jaw movement looks pretty scary if you watch too many horror movies.

3. The Limp Noodle

So sad, the Noodle.

When you lock lips and start to French, and his lips just hang there and his tongue lies there like a slug, you have a Limp Noodle on your hands.

No matter how much you push, massage, and prod his tongue to bring it back to life, it plays possum, dead in the middle of the road. There is nothing you can do – you’re basically giving mouth-to-mouth to this guy.

4. Mercy Kisses

Sometimes you kiss for fun, and sometimes you just have to give a kiss out of pity – hence the Mercy Kiss.

You give these kisses when you feel bad about something, want your date to look good (even though you aren’t into him), or just feel sorry for the poor sap. Only in the movies do these kisses turn into a blazing romance.

If you end up on the receiving end of a Mercy Kiss, just enjoy it and then excuse yourself to go wash your cat.

5. The Zombie Kiss

Another nightmare kiss many of us have experienced, which seems to come from beyond the grave.

It’s as if all the life drains out of him as he comes in for a kiss: the eyes flutter, clamp shut, or roll back into his head. His face goes slack and lifeless. And the most horrifying part of all: his mouth opens up into a gaping maw, threatening to swallow you whole.

Sometimes the Zombie Kisser comes at you like a lost extra from Night of the Living Dead, mouth agape, with a shiny Pink sluglike tongue pointing out at you. Scream! Run! Barricade the doors and windows!

6. The Zoolander Kiss

Ever wonder what it would be like to kiss an international male model?

The Zoolander makes you feel like you’re a pretty prop designed to make him look good as he poses, shifts, and gives his “sexy” face to the world while kissing you. Would he notice if you were gone? Probably not.

The Zoolander Kiss is meant purely to compliment the physical beauty of the man kissing you – it’s not for anyone’s actual physical pleasure. It’s used when trying to impress others or to make someone jealous.

Fan Dies in Clashes before Atletico Win against Deportivo

Goals from Saul Niguez and Arda Turan sealed three points for Atletico Madrid at home to Deportivo La Coruna, but the death of a Deportivo supporter and injuries after clashes in Madrid Rio hours before kickoff stole the headlines.

Deportivo coach Víctor Fernández described today as “possibly one of the saddest days of Spanish football in recent years” after an unnamed 43-year-old fan of the Galician club was fetched out of a river near Atletico’s Vicente Calderon Stadium (Mazanares River) following clashes between dozens of rival fans hours before kickoff.

He was said to have suffered cardiac arrest, hypothermia and head injuries and died at a hospital shortly after 2pm local time (1300GMT) after failing to respond to efforts to resuscitate him.

“It has been a reprehensible and despicable incident. I cannot understand life like this,” Fernandez told reporters after the match, which Deportivo lost.

“Attend an event, a party which should be of brotherhood, joyful and to participate with your family. We know it has been a terrible and violent event, with a lot of participants and with very bad consequences.”

A female police officer was among eleven other people treated for mostly minor injuries.

Twenty people were taken into custody with 100 troublemakers identified.

Both clubs have condemned the violence. Atletico President Enrique Cerezo, speaking before the death of the supporter was announced, told Spanish television: “I want to say that this has nothing to do with football.

Coach of the La Liga champions Diego Simeone, speaking after the match, said: “We are very sad. They are situations that are not related to football, which we absolutely condemn from where we stand and hope that these kind of situations are not repeated and that they never happen again.”

On the pitch, Niguez opened scoring for the Los Rojiblancos via a header two minutes before the break and midfielder Turan doubled the hosts’ advantage on 55 minutes to help Simeone’s side move within four points of La Liga leaders Real Madrid on 29 points after 13 matches.

It was Atletico’s fifth victory in their last six La Liga matches, propelling them to second-place ahead of Barcelona, who are away to Valencia in the evening kick-off.

A woman in Brooksville side of Florida is joyous to be alive after a state trooper (pictured above) saved her from being strangled by her own car’s seatbelt on Thursday evening. Huff’Post has more:

The 38-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, became entangled in the passenger side seatbelt of her 2010 Toyota when her 4-year-old daughter put the seatbelt around the woman’s neck to protest being put in a child seat.

The seatbelt then locked in place, squeezing the woman’s neck and making it difficult to breathe.

Although her husband tried to remove the seatbelt, his efforts only tightened it more, according to BayNews9.com.

The woman was nearly unconscious by the time her husband was able to flag down Florida State Trooper, Brad Wagner for help.

Wagner cut the strangling seatbelt and was able to help the victim start breathing again, WTSP reports.

After EMTs checked the woman out,she was allowed to continue on her way, MyFoxTampaBay.com reports.

Man Shoots Woman And Himself At US Store

Police investigate after a shooting at a Chicago Nordstrom store left one man dead and one woman in critical condition.

A bustling Nordstrom store packed with holiday shoppers became the scene of a deadly shooting Friday night when a man shot a woman and then himself, Chicago officials said.

Panicked Black Friday shoppers bolted when gunfire rang out in the crowded store.

The gunman entered the store and targeted “his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend” on the second floor, according to John Escalante, the Chicago police chief of detectives.

The man died and the woman was critically injured, said spokesman Larry Langford of the Chicago Fire Department.

The woman, a seasonal employee at the store, was taken to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The gunman died at the scene.

“I’m a big guy, and people were knocking me over,” shopper Scott Balloch told CNN affiliate WLS. “My feeling was just get the hell out of there.”

Stephanie Okereke’s Fans Blast Her Brother

stttettee

Recently, it was reported that popular actress, Stephanie Okereke’s brother, Daniel, was arrested for allegedly ra*ping a University of Lagos student identified simply as Arinola.

Shortly after, the actress released a press statement condemning the action and applauded the alleged victim for speaking out. The dark-skinned actress also said that the law should take its full course.

However, while her fans admired her courage and stance on the matter, they blasted her brother for dragging their family name through the mud.

An online commentator, Ada Onyema, suggested a punishment she felt best fits the alleged crime.

She said, “I agree with her. The so-called ra*pist is a grown man, not Stephanie’s child or nephew. He should be responsible for his actions! Bloody ra*pist, they need to plug a ring boiler to his man-hood and let it boil.”

Linda Uche also aired her opinion online while commending the actress for being just.

“Stephanie, keep advocating for women and the Lord will surely crown your efforts. As for that ra*pist, the law will castrate him and he will rot in jail,” she said.

Chi Exotic said that he should face the consequence of his action. “He should be made to face the consequence of his inhuman actions regardless of the calibre of person he is. r*pe is ra*pe,” she said.

An anonymous commentator said that Daniel should be ashamed of himself for dragging the family’s name through the mud.

“This guy should be ashamed of himself. Your sister is there working hard and you are busy ra*ping girls. It is either po*rn addiction, plain stinginess or a psychological disorder. I still wonder why a guy like you will ra*pe. You can get consensual se*x anytime, ra*pe is a no no. Let him face the wrath of the law. It’s so annoying,” the commentator said.

Soldado Seals Spurs Win Over Everton

Roberto Soldado scored his first Premier League goal of the season to help Tottenham Hotspur secure a comeback win over Everton and move seventh on the standings on Sunday.

Everton’s Kevin Mirallas opened scoring in the first quarter of play, curling a sublime right-footed shot into the top corner from 20 yards after Tottenham failed to clear a free-kick.

Christian Eriksen kept his composure to level for the White Hart Lane team six minutes later, chipping in after Harry Kane’s low shot was pushed into his path by goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Eriksen almost doubled his tally for the day on 35 minutes but his deflected shot flew just past the post with Tim Howard wrong-footed.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men probed on for a third goal, moving the ball forward at fast tempo early into the second half.

Kano Bomb Attack: Nigeria In Grave Danger – Aregbesola

osun-state-governor-rauf-aregbesola-360x270

Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Sunday said Friday’s bombing in Kano is an indication that Nigeria is in grave danger, as attacks from Islamist sect Boko Haram intensify.

Scores have been killed and 270 others wounded when two suicide bombers blew themselves up and gunmen opened fire during Friday prayers at the mosque, a week after the emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, of one of Nigeria’s top Islamic leaders called on northerners to defend themselves against Boko Haram Islamists that have been carrying out deadly attacks and seizure of territory in the northeast.

“The Friday bombing of Emir’s palace’s Mosque has proved ultimately and beyond any doubt that this country faces daunting challenges posed by the Boko Haram insurgents,” Aregbesola said in a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication at the weekly prayer session of Nasrullahi -il Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT), Osogbo Branch.

“Condemnable as the act is, yet it baffles one that a lot of us still deceive ourselves by reading religious colouration to this whole violence,” he said.

Aregbesola noted that there is no way a true Muslim will blow up a mosque.

“I do not believe that a Muslim, who is a true Muslim, can do this to a Christian let alone a fellow Muslim hiding under the guise of promoting his religion.

“It is painful to hear that the places of worship are no longer safe places for our people,” he lamented.

“It indeed saddens the heart that people would go to prayer on a Friday or Sunday and there and then in the Sanctuary of God meet his death in the most grievous manner,” Aregbesola said.

He therefore called on the people of the country to pray fervently to rescue the country from the clutches of Boko Haram.

He also advised them to be vigilant, as he identified market places, motor parks and other places of social gathering as prime targets for heinous crimes by the insurgents. He also said that any suspicious movements should be reported to the security agencies.

Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy’s first City goal inflicted a first home defeat on the Ronald Koeman’s side, ahead of a difficult lineup of winter fixtures.

IvorianToure could have opened scoring as City pressed for an early goal, but his chip flew straight at goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Steven Davis then collected a loose Dusan Tadic cross meant for Graziano Pelle but Joe Hart managed to parry his effort into the box and eventually cleared to safety.

The ‘Citizens’ finally broke the deadlock after the break, when Fernandinho dispossessed Wanyama on the edge of Southampton goal area- and teed up Toure; the reigning African player of the year then precisely slotted past Forster via a slight deflection.

Jesus Navas almost doubled the visitors’ advantage when dragging a shot wide of the target.

Eliaquim Mangala got his marching order for a second yellow card, after hacking down Shane Long who was about to edge through on goal.

Lampard sealed victory with ten minutes left to the dead, ending a neat counter-attacking move with a cool finish. Defender Clichy blasted high into Forster’s net to seal a deserved three point.

(Advice Needed) How Do I Break The Blood Covenant I Made With My Ex-Girl?

Dear Tee,

I met a lady in one of the white garment church and I fell in love with her. Months later, we had a blood covenant to never leave each other. Some months passed by and my gf started seeing this mystery guy secretly. I asked her to leave him, but she would not.

I later broke up with her and went back to my ex. We confessed all the people we dated to each other after we broke upe but I didn’t mention the covenant I made with the other girl. What do I do? Should I confess to her?

Anonymous.

Dear A,

Blood covenant isn’t a joke, it has many spiritual implications. I urge you to go for prayers and deliverance in a bible-believing church. Confess all that happened between you and her to the spiritual head there and seek urgent deliverance.

Also, I implore you never to do such again….. It’s evil and disastrous.

May the Lord help you out.

Tee.

Read about Ladi Kwali: The woman on the N20 note

Capture2

If you know any great Nigerian history please share with the rest of us. Below is the history of Ladi Kwali, the woman on the N20 note…

Nigeria’s best known potter who was awarded a Doctorate and was made MBE in 1963 for the level of detail and skill she utilized while making her pots.

Ladi Dosei Kwali (1925-1983) popularly known as Dr Ladi Kwali was born in 1925 in Kwali town in the present Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,Nigeria.

Probably she is the best known of the Abuja potters. Making pots was women’s work in Kwali and the entire Gwari villages, therefore Ladi came to Abuja (the then Suleja) with knowledge of traditional Gwari pottery.

She did not at first take to the idea of using wheels and kilns and the other paraphernalia of the European potter, but proved to have a natural ability to throw. She was picked from her traditional home Kwali to the then Abuja the present Suleja because of her natural ability in making pots.

The Abuja Pottery Training Centre was established 1950 by an English potter, Michael Cardew, who was sent to the Abuja area by the then colonial government, ostensibly to improve the quality of local work. But he found himself, for the next 15 years, in a symbiotic working relationship with local potters, in which he taught and was taught by potters like Ladi Kwali.

While Cardew introduced wheels and kilns to the centre, he also learnt about traditional firing methods and ornamentation. Kwali on the other hand, was initially reluctant to adapt to the wheel, preferring the spiralled coil method of building pots. She however, discovered she had a natural flair for the wheel. Cardew encouraged her to decorate her work, something she had not done before, and he even fired some of her traditional work in the Abuja kiln.

Ladi was later to become a very popular member of the touring lecture team; her easy nature and ability to communicate made her well liked and appreciated in Europe, Britain and America. She became Nigeria’s best known potter and has been honoured in many ways; she was given a doctorate.

By the time she died in 1983, Dr Ladi Kwali was Nigeria’s best known potter. She left a rich legacy of her work and a school of ‘students’ who picked up from where she left at the Abuja Pottery Training Centre. Over the next decade, her ornamentation skills became more sophisticated, and probably because of improved firing methods, she had the opportunity to exhibit her work in Europe in 1958, 1959 and 1962.

Her pottery was also displayed during Nigeria’s independence celebrations in 1960. Dr Ladi Kwali remained associated with the Abuja pottery works till she died. She gave lectures and demonstrations at home and abroad on her craft throughout her career.

CAN Condemns Kano Bombing

Ayo Oritsejafor

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Saturday condemned the bomb attack on a mosque in Kano where about 200 people were reported killed on Friday.

CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, while condemning the attack in a statement, stressed the need for the country to unite on the fight against insurgency. He also called on Nigerians to be vigilant at all times.

“Recently, an interfaith meeting that had representations from the hierarchy of both faith in attendance emphasised the need for dialogue, mutual relations, cooperation and unity in the renewed fight against insurgency in the country.

“The meeting made far reaching decisions that could be important in finding lasting peace to our country and that in itself was supposed to be a step towards the much anticipated peace and security in the country. It was therefore unfortunate that while some Nigerians were making efforts towards entrenching peace, others were indulging in drawing the road map to further destruction in our country,” he added.

Oritsejafor said “the entire Christian community in Nigeria received the news of the latest in the series of bomb explosions, this time around at the mosque near the emir’s palace in Kano, with shock and disbelief. This is most unfortunate given the number of people that lost their lives in their bid to offer prayers to their Almighty in the usual Friday worship at the mosque.

“On behalf of the entire Christians community under the auspices of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), I wish to commiserate with the families of the victims especially those who lost their lives in the attack.

“I strongly condemn this particular attack because it is the greatest evil both to a fellow human being and to God almighty, it is an act that must be denounced by all, Christians and Moslems for no God commissions the killing of a fellow being.”

The CAN president appealed “to all Nigerians especially residents of the areas most prone to the attacks not to give in or succumb to the antics of the insurgents; this is the time to remain fearless in the face of terror’.

“We cannot continue to allow the terrorists to continue to intimidate us in our land because we have no other place to call our own, we must cooperate with relevant authorities in addition to being extra vigilant, to defeat this terror, they are human beings and can be defeated, but we have to be united. Nigerians must be united both in prayers and in other practical steps, to defeat terror.”

He said “I want to use this medium to re emphasis the need for all faithful, especially during their hours of worship to be watchful to forestall any further attack on their places of worship, this is a clarion call. I urge security agencies not to relent in their efforts but to work harder and to understand that our prayers remain with them day and night.”

He added that the “attack on the people of Kano is an attack on all Nigerians and must be addressed as such. This is the time for all to rise up and act, may God help us all as we make these strong efforts at curbing terrorism from our land and may the souls of all those who lost their lives in the attacks, rest in peace.”

Boko Haram lnsurgency Will soon End – Jonathan

goodluck-ebele-jonathan9.jpg

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday assured Nigerians that Book Haram insurgency in the country will soon end.

The president made this known in Lagos when he hosted some Igbo market and town union leaders under the auspices of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria led by billionaire businessmen Arthur Eze and Ifeanyi Ubah.

“I just want to tell Nigerians that this phase will surely pass,” said Jonathan, who lamented the Kano bomb attack where about 200 people were killed on Friday.

“This intimidation will not last. We will continue to improve on the technology needed to combat terrorism,” he added.

The president said further that other countries have faced terrorism and have overcome. This he said shows that Nigeria will also overcome its challenges.

He thanked the Igbo leaders who represented the 158 recognized markets in the state, as well as the town unions in Lagos, for vowing to deliver all Igbo votes in the state to the PDP in the 2015 presidential election.

Speaking earlier, Prince Arthur Eze urged Igbos to continue mobilizing votes for Jonathan because he has the fear of God and sincerity to work for the nation.

Judiciary Financial Autonomy: FG, States Agree To Implement Court Ruling

high courtThe Federal Government and states have finally agreed to start funding the nation’s judiciary as spelt out in the constitution.

This follows a series of agitations by the leadership of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, which culminated in an agreement reached with the union last Thursday.

It would be recalled that JUSUN got a court order from the Federal High Court Abuja on January 13, 2014 regarding respect for the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on financial autonomy of the judiciary.

The judiciary workers had on July 11 embarked on a three-week strike, which was suspended after various concerned government officials and other stakeholders in the judiciary promised to ensure the implementation of the court judgment.

Though the government reneged on its part of the agreement, it finally agreed to implement the judgment after the union threatened to embark on another strike.

With the agreement now reached, from December, funds meant for the federal and respective state judiciaries in the budgets would be deducted by the Accountant General of the Federation and remitted to the National Judicial Council.

The NJC will then disburse the funds to the various heads of courts.

This development was confirmed in a statement by the NJC, through its Acting Director (Information), Mr. Soji Oye.

The statement read in part, “The Judiciary Staff Association of Nigeria has called off its strike proposed to commece from Monday, December 1, 2015.

“The agreement to shelve the strike was reached on November 27, 2014 at the end of the meeting chaired by the Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), the leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria and other relevant Stakeholders.

“The bone of contention had been the implementation of the subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on January 13, 2014 regarding Sections 81 (3), 121 (3) and 162 (9) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“The stakeholders on November 27 reconciled the figures submitted by JUSUN with the budgeted estimates by the States Accountants-General and concluded that the Accountant-General of the Federation will make deductions during the next Federal Accounts Allocation Committee meeting to the National Judicial Council in line with the Court Judgment on actual funds released that can be defended by the respective States and duly concurred by JUSUN.

“A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Stakeholders to the effect”.

It’s Time For Muslims To Unite And Fight Insurgency – Sultan

sultanThe Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Sa’ad III, has challenged the different Islamic sects in the country to unite and fight insurgency.

He spoke while condemning Friday’s suicide bomb blasts at the Kano Central mosque saying “those behind all the attacks are not Muslims”.

“I do not believe those perpetrating these are Muslims because if they are Muslims they are not professing what Islam teaches. In the world over it is the duty and responsibility of government to provide security for the citizenry. This is the time for all the various sects in Islam in this country to rally round one another and bring to an end insurgency in this country”, he said.

Speaking on Saturday in Abuja during the Post-2014 Hajj Conference organized by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria held at the National Mosque, the Sultan decried the dastardly act.

According to him, it was time for all stakeholders particularly the Federal Government, to rise up to the responsibility with view to bringing to an end insurgency in the country.

Elechi Warns Coordinators Of Devt. Centres

Martin ElechiGov. Martin Elechi of Ebonyi has warned new Coordinators of Development Centres in the State against acts detrimental to policies and programmes of the Government.

The governor gave the warning in Abakaliki on Friday when he administered oath of office on the 28 new coordinators who replaced those he sacked on Nov.17.

According to the governor, the sacked coordinators worked against the mandate which they were given on appointment.

“As the government was intolerant of such acts, they had to leave.

“You should understand my ‘body language’ and understand the direction of government policies and actions.

“When you don’t understand the direction we are heading to, ask questions, as you cannot be moving towards another direction while the government moves towards a different one.

“The changes that brought you into office were regrettable, as I expected your predecessors just like my commissioners, to move in the same direction with me.

“They forgot that they were my personal members of staff just as Jesus Christ told his disciples: I choose you and not you choosing me”, he said.

He reminded political stakeholders in the state that the appointment of coordinators remained his personal right, as he was not bound to consult anyone while making them.

“I can only consult when the need arises, as this is not the case of elective positions where the people have their say and elect candidates of their choices”, he said.

Elechi reminded the coordinators that “you are to serve the public and respect your local government chairmen who remain your bosses.

“You should be careful while dealing with financial issues, as I would not fail to sack any of you who gets involved in tax malpractices, forged educational credentials and poor behavioral record.

“You are presently part of the government; I therefore inform you that there would be no Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly primaries in Ebonyi, Taraba, Ondo and Adamawa on Nov. 29.

“We had a lengthy discussion with President Goodluck Jonathan, the Vice President and party’s national chairman.

“We arrived at the decision. So, you are to ensure that there is no violence in your area of authority even at the highest provocation”, he said.

Kano Mosque Bombing An Attack On All Nigerians, Says CAN

can_logoThe Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned the attack on the Central Mosque in Kano by alleged members of the Boko Haram sect on Friday describing it as “an attack on all Nigerians”.

The association said the condemnation became necessary because “this particular attack is the greatest evil both to a fellow human being and to God almighty, it is an act that must be denounced by all Christians and Moslems for no God commissions the killing of a fellow being”.

CAN national president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja said it was unfortunate that “while some Nigerians were making efforts towards entrenching peace, others were indulging in drawing the road map to further destruction in our country”.

Oritsejafor recalled that during a recent interfaith meeting that had representations from the hierarchy of both faith in attendance, participants stressed the need for dialogue, mutual relations, cooperation and unity in the renewed fight against insurgency in the country.

The cleric said, “The meeting made far reaching decisions that could be important in finding lasting peace to our country and that in itself was supposed to be a step towards the much anticipated peace and security in the country.

“The entire Christian community in Nigeria received the news of the latest in the series of bomb explosions, this time around at the mosque near the Emir’s palace in Kano, with shock and disbelief. This is most unfortunate given the number of people that lost their lives in their bid to offer prayers to their Almighty in the usual Friday worship at the mosque.

“On behalf of the entire Christians community under the auspices of CAN, I wish to commiserate with the families of the victims especially those who lost their lives in the attack. This attack on the people of Kano is an attack on all Nigerians and must be addressed as such; this is the time for all to rise up and act, may God help us all as we make this strong efforts at curbing terrorism from our land”.

According to the CAN leader, news of the death of one soul by any means, whether bomb blast, accident, illness of any form of attack was enough to sadden any human being adding, “but to learn almost on a daily basis about the death of hundreds of the lives of fellow compatriot is tormenting”.

Pastor Oritsejafor appealed to all Nigerians especially residents of the areas mostly prone to the attacks not to give in or succumb to the antics of the insurgents, because “this is the time to remain fearless in the face of terror”.

The CAN President continued: “We cannot continue to allow the terrorists to continue to intimidate us in our land because we have no other place to call our own, we must cooperate with relevant authorities in addition to being extra vigilant, to defeat this terror; they are human beings and can be defeated, but we have to be united. Nigerians must be united both in prayers and in other practical steps, to defeat terror.

“I want to use this medium to re-emphasise the need for all faithfuls, especially during their hours of worship to be watchful to forestall any further attack on their places of worship, this is a clarion call. I urge security agencies not to relent in their efforts but to work harder and to understand that our prayers remain with them day and night”.

Oyo APC Gives Ajimobi, Council Bosses Kudos Over Road Projects

abiola ajimobiThe Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has praised the initiative of Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the leadership of the 33 local government councils to collaborate and embark on construction of intra-city roads in their respective domains in fulfillment of the promise made to the people by the state government.

Some residents of the state had in the past few days lauded the APC-led government in the state for either carrying out repairs or construction projects on many roads the party claimed had been abandoned for long.

“Virtually all the caretaker chairmen in the 33 local government areas in Oyo State have flagged off two or more important road construction projects in their council territory to complement the efforts of Senator Abiola Ajimobi on improved road networks for the people of the state”, the party noted.

In a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, the state APC recalled that the development was a testimony to the seriousness which political office holders on its platform attached to addressing issues that affect the masses as well as a pointer to the fact every promise made to the people would be fulfilled regardless of the odds.

“We recall that our party made an appeal to the people of the state to remain calm when there was this insinuation that attention was paid to only major roads while most intra city ones were in deplorable conditions. Some of the principal actors in the present administration even came out to assure that most of the roads in question would receive a facelift immediately after the intensity of the seasonal rains must have subsided”.
