N11billion debt: Rep Member-elect Wants Gov. Lamido Probed

Sule LamidoA House of Representatives member-elect from Jigawa State, Sani Zoro, has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission to look into recent comment by the State Governor, Sule Lamido, that he is leaving behind an N11billion debt for the incoming administration.

The governor had while reviewing his achievements in office, lamented the fact that the incoming All Progressives Congress administration in the state would be inheriting a debt of N11 billion, which he said was supposed to be refunded to the state by the Federal Government for building the International Airport in Dutse, the state capital.

Reacting to the governor’s statement in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES in Kano on Monday, Mr. Zoro, a former national president of the National Union of Journalist, described the development as unacceptable.

“It is unacceptable for Governor Lamido, who has a series of EFCC cases with regards to how his sons looted the state treasury, to now tell us that he is leaving behind this huge amount”, Mr. Zoro said.

“The Commission should hasten the investigation of the governor, his sons and all his commissioners, to get to the root of how the people’s money is being spent.

“Lamido should not belabour himself about the status of the Jigawa treasury because Allah in his mercy has now blessed the state with a governor, an accomplished accountant who will diligently follow how every kobo is being spent. Let him be rest assured that his books will be scrutinized methodically with the finest tooth-comb available.

“We however take solace in the fact that EFCC has not unfrozen the multibillion naira sleaze accounts traced to a top functionary and his children. I believe we can take refuge in the EFCC to address genuine liabilities that may be left behind by the regime”.
