Boko Haram: Police Order Newspaper Vendors Out Of Asokoro Junction

newspaper-vendor-360x239The threat to security by insurgents has again affected the Nigerian media as the police has ordered newspaper vendors stationed at the busy Asokoro junction popularly called ‘Power House’ in the nation’s capital, to stop selling newspapers there with effect from tomorrow.

A statement issued by the Chairman of the Newspaper Vendors Association, Samuel E. Jimoh, said the order came from the Asokoro division of the Nigeria Police.

Jimoh said the police claimed the directive was due to intelligence information.

“With this development am hopeful that media houses shall rise up to verify this claim because the affected area is a fast selling point and the action will affect over 30 members”, he added.

The order is coming few weeks after the Nigerian military clamped down on media and seized newspaper copies and distribution vans in the name of security checks.
