A new proposal has been made which prevents players from displaying any message on T-shirts worn underneath their strips.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body which oversees the rules of the game, meets this weekend in Zurich, when the new regulation will be voted upon.
The new law has been proposed by the Football Association. It would apply to domestic and international football.
It raises the prospect of incidents such as Mario Balotelli’s infamous “Why Always Me?” message, which the former Manchester City striker revealed after scoring against Manchester United in 2011, being banned and subject to a sanction.
