The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has decried the renewed communal clash that has engulfed the South and North senatorial district of the state.
In a statement signed by the state chairman, Yunana Iliya, PDP urged the warring groups to sheathe their swords and embrace peace in the overall interest of the state.
Mr. Iliya said that no society prospers in an atmosphere of violence and destruction.
“We wish to draw the attention of the affected communities that no amount of violence will heal the briefed and return the losses”, he said.
“Sheathing the sword and uniting together as a people will create the enabling environment for understanding and sober reflection”.
The chairman called on the affected communities to let bygone be bygones and look to the future as one family, adding that no amount of violence or hatred will resolve the crisis.
“No amount of violence, hatred and continued reprisal attacks would bring the necessary solution or desired happiness for any injured community”, the statement said. “Those involved should see reason and stop the wanton killings and embrace peace as the only panacea to meaningful progress and development”.
He called on security agencies and the state government to rise up to the challenge by ensuring peace returns to the affected communities.
The statement added: “Security agencies on their part should wake up to their responsibilities by ensuring peace returns to the affected communities.
“Government on its own part, should be proactive and create the enabling environment for security agencies to perform their responsibilities.
“We want to call on government to arrest the situation before it gets out of hand by rising up to the challenge and stop hiding under political influence of external forces and forgetting the home front”, it added.
Mr. Iliya stressed that crisis must be avoided.
