Gervinho Out for Three Weeks With Muscle Injury

Roma winger Gervinho will be sidelined for three weeks with a thigh muscle tear, the club have announced.

The injury sustained by the Cote d’Ivoire international comes as a huge blow to coach Rudi Garcia’s side, who are bidding for a second-placed finish in the Italian Serie A.

The club said in a statement: “Gervinho underwent tests which revealed a first grade tear in his right thigh. He will likely be unavailable for three weeks. From tomorrow, he will begin rehabilitation.”

Roma trail runaway leaders Juventus by 14 points but are only one point ahead of city rivals Lazio with ten games remaining this season.

Gervinho will miss upcoming league matches against Napoli, Torino, Atalanta and possibly Inter Milan on 25 April.

Garcia would now resort to compatriot Seydou Doumbia, who joined the club from CSKA Moscow in the January transfer window, as a replacement.
