Jonathan expresses hope of winning presidential election

2015-election

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed hope that the outcome of the presidential election will be in his favour.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday, after casting his vote at his polling unit in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Jonathan congratulated Nigerians for the large turn out to vote.

“I want to congratulate Nigerians for coming out en masse to exercise their right to vote,” he said.

However, the president sympathized with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the failure of Smart Card Readers across the country. He urged people of the country to bear with the electoral body while expressing hope that the elections would be successful, free and fair.

“I want to plead with Nigerians to exercise some patience even though some people are said to have waited more than necessary at the polls,” he said.

Reacting to reports of a bomb blast at a polling unit in Enugu, Jonathan said there was no such thing.

“The information I got was that somebody saw something that he suspected looked like an Improvised Explosive Device, IED. I think the object was inspected and it was discovered that it was not a bomb.

“I spoke with the governor of Enugu State this morning and he confirmed that there was no bomb blast,” Jonathan said.

Asked what outcome he was expecting following the polls, the president said “I am very hopeful.”
