Chairman of the Convention Committee and Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, made this optimistic remark at the inauguration of the 15-man committee on Wednesday by the national secretary of the party, Alhaji Tijjani Tumsa, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Wamakko also noted that the party leadership carefully selected the committee members based on their track record of performance in previous tasks.
Said he: “This convention, as you are aware, is very unique in many respects but most importantly, it is going to be the first convention of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), after the great merger process to choose officers to manage its affairs as we approach the 2015 general elections.
“Secondly, it is a widely held belief especially amongst our detractors that this convention will make or mar our great party. If you will recall, our detractors never gave us a chance to succeed at the merger stage, but to their disappointment, we succeeded”.
Continuing, Wamakko said: “Now that they expect us not to succeed, we must prove them wrong. We will present to the Nigerian people a world class convention. And to do this, we must determine to make sacrifices, building on past experience while placing party interest above self.”
