Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has signed for Swansea City from Arsenal on a free transfer.
The Poland international’s contract with the ‘Gunners’ expires at the end of June, by which time he is free to join the Welsh outfit.
Fabianki has played as compatriot Wojciech Szczesny’s understudy for the past three season. His penalty-saving performance in the FA Cup semi-final win over Hull City could well become his fondest and last memory among Arsenal fans.
“The main reason I came to Swansea was because I want to be the number one goalkeeper,” Fabianski said.
“I want to play week-in, week-out. It’s going to be a real fight, but I’m not afraid of that. Competition is always good, so I think everyone will take positives from that.”
The 29-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Legia Warsaw in 2007, made just 14 appearances for the club in the 2013/14 season- one of those in a Premier League game.
He also saved a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in March as Arsenal bowed out of the Champions League in the last-16.
Fabianski added: “I’m excited. I’ve already asked for the pre-season programme to see how it looks. I’m really looking forward to starting with my new team-mates and I think it’s going to be a fantastic new chapter in my life.”
His arrival at the Liberty Stadium has added more fat to speculations that Michel Vorm is on his way out.
The Swans goalkeeper, bought from FC Utrecht in 2011 by- then manager- Brendan Rodgers is linked with a reunion with his former boss at Liverpool.
Vorm has two years left in his current contract and Swansea have dismissed they are in talk with the Anfield outfit over any potential sales.
