The governor, who made this known on Democracy Day celebration, said the gesture was aimed at providing the dividends of democracy to the people, pointing out that the circumstance which ceded power to him in 2011 was “an unusual election in an unusual circumstance.”
According to him, Imo indigenes have been clamoring for a ‘godly’ leader that would deliver them from the ‘evil leadership’ of the past.
“I took an oath to touch the lives of the people of my state with the help of God; and I do what I do, not for monetary gains or to be re-elected. “I wish to have my name written in history as a leader who registered a great impact on the lives of the people and development” he said.
The governor while commissioning the newly-built International Conference Centre stated that national and international organisations are expected hold conferences at the centre.
Okorocha, who went ahead to give a breakdown of some of his administration’s achievements in the past three years listed them as- 1,000km asphalted rural roads, construction and dualisation of city roads, construction of five inland bridges to link the old and new Owerri, reconstruction of Government House, construction of Owerri City School, primary school buildings in the rural areas as well as the degree-awarding College of Health Technology situated at Orlu.
He listed others to include; Odenigbo Guest House, Akachi Towers, European University, College of Advanced Professional Studies, 27 general hospitals in local governments, Young Scientist College and the Centenary Towers, among others.
Okorocha further lauded himself by saying he has transformed Okigwe and Orlu into new cities as well as built newer cities ‘to make Imo a one-city state’.
The governor noted that he was very elated by the Community Government Council (CGC), which he expressed believes that it has come to stay and commended the Eze Imo and all traditional rulers for their contributions towards his success so far.
