Journalist Dies At 55 After Complaining Of Back Ache

The Ekiti State Correspondent of ThisDay Newspapers, Mr. Toba Suleiman has died at the age of 55 after a brief illness.


The journalist died in the early hours of Sunday at the Sacred Hearts Hospital, Lantoro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, just hours after he complained of repeated backache, which made his wife take him to the hospital the previous night.


According to one of Suleiman’s children identified as Aisha, the journalist took ill during the last Ramadan, but was well after receiving treatment, and he went back to his station in Ado-Ekiti from Abeokuta where his family resides. He was however rushed down to Abeokuta from Ado-Ekiti last Thursday.


Reacting to the death of Suleimanl, a former Chief Press Secretary in Ogun State, Adegbenro Adebanjo said, “The gentleman, the peacemaker, may his gentle soul rest in peace and may God grant friends, family members and colleagues fortitude to bear this huge loss.”


Also reacting, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Ogun State, Kayode Samuel, said “Speechless!!! May his soul rest in peace.”


Aisha, who said that her late father was healthy until she was called that he died yesterday, disclosed that he would be buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.


Alhaji Toba Suleiman was survived by a wife and four children.
