There are heavy US-led coalition fighting going on at the moment to stop the Islamic State group. There is continuing airstrikes on militant targets in Iraq and Syria. It is also fast expanding, with dozens of countries now among its ranks.
For the first time, US and coalition aircraft from three Arab nations dropped bombs on I-S terrorists attacking the town of Kobani along the Syrian – Turkish border, where outgunned Kurdish fighters are under attack by I-S militants.
As the US led coalition gains strength, criticism of Islamic State violence in Syria and Iraq grows.
“This is madness. These people cannot be the voices of Islam. they don’t understand -and just claiming the caliph -is simply a way of creating a false legitimacy of their purpose,”Iyad Madani, secretary-general of Organization Of Islamic Cooperation, said.
As many as 160,000 Kurdish refugees have poured across the border from Kobani into Turkey -and despite coalition attacks, as I-S jihadists continue to capture communities in the area.
“I wish to make special reference to the grave humanitarian situation and increasing refugee pressure on countries in the region -including Greece. military means alone cannot eliminate the Jihadist threat,” Evangelos Venizelos
The US says airstrikes were carried out, with help from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.
While the US points out those three Arab nations dominated by Sunnis…Still, there are harsh critics of the US led action — Russia’s Foreign Minister says the United States must realize it cannot act as prosecutor, judge, and executioner in every part of the world.
“The struggle against terrorists in the territory of Syria should be structured in cooperation with the Syrian government -which clearly stated its readiness to join it. from the very beginning of the Arab spring -Russia urged that it not be left to extremists and to establish a united front to counter the growing terrorist threat,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Despite President Obama’s adamant stance, that the US will not use ground troops in the middle east in the fight against the I-S. A new poll shows many Americans don’t believe. According to the survey -nearly three-in-four believe eventually the United States will send ground troops to degrade and destroy the jihadists. And, nearly half say they would support the use of ground troops -IF military leaders say that is what’s necessary to degrade and destroy the I-S.
