Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, on Tuesday, signed the 2015 Appropriation Bill as passed by the lawmakers into law.
Oshiomhole had last Tuesday presented a budget estimate of N156.551billion, but the lawmakers shored up the expenditure framework by almost N3billion and increased it to N159.3 billion.
The governor, who spoke after signing the budget, expressed confidence that his administration would do everything possible to ensure that the laudable objectives contained in the budget are realized.
Oshiomhole assured that he would ensure the electorates get value for money in line with the tradition of prudent management of resources and proper costing of projects.
He promised to sustain the tradition of blocking leakages as well as aggressive revenue collection drive in order to find the resources to implement the budget.
He, however, noted that the hope of getting the budget realized in full, would depend on how the Federal Government tackles the problem of oil theft.
His words, “It is also my hope that the effort the Federal Government has been making and its currently making with regards to improving security around oil installations and all of that will lead to substantial reduction if not putting an end to crude oil theft.
“Once we can attain that, then we hope that all the revenue accruing from our oil and gas sector will become available for distribution at the federation account. If that happens, then of course our hope of getting full implementation of this budget will be realized”.
