Nigeria’s senior women’s internationals will begin preparation for the 2015 Fifa World Cup in March, according to top officials.
The Super Falcons have been placed alongside former champions United States of America, Sweden and Australia in what has been labeled the ‘Group of Death.’ They open their tournament against Sweden on June 8 in Winnipeg, Canada.
According to the official, training camp will commence in March ahead of the All African Games and Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers.
“I am very sure the players will use the qualifiers for the All African Games and Olympics Games to kick start their preparation for the World Cup. The camp will open in March,” the official is quoted as saying on local News Tabloid the Guardian on Sunday.
Meanwhile, players and officials of the team are said to be dissatisfied over delay by President Goodluck Jonathan to host the victorious 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) winners.
The coach Edwin Okon-led ladies clinched a record-extending seventh AWC title in Windhoek, Namibia two months ago by beating the Lioness of Cameroon in the final 2-0.
He players and officials were received by the Nigerian President on arrival, but details about a latter Presidential Gala are yet to be announced and the girls are said to be grumbling.
