Glo Premier League Update: Dolphins, Sharks Beat Sunshine Stars, Crown FC in Port Harcourt

Dolphins fought from behind to down Sunshine Stars 2-1 as Sharks FC shot three past Crown FC to complete double wins for the two Port Harcourt-based sides in a Glo Premier League Matchday 4 fixtures.


Sharks got off well against their Ogbomoso-based opponents and earned a penalty within 15 minutes of kick-off, when Crown’s Benson Omodikwu tripped Idris Bakare and goalkeeper Danladi Isah stepped up to send goalkeeper Mike Uweri the wrong way.


Ifeanyi Anyam doubled Sharks’ lead before the interval, after a fine link-up play with Kelly Kester.

Fred Obamate completed scoring for Sharks 20 minutes after the restart as the Port Harcourt outfit left no stone unturned and sealed another three points.


Sharks now sits second on the league standings, a point behind leaders, Akwa United, with seven points from a possible 12.

In the other game of the first Glo Premier League double header of 2014, Dolphins came back from an early Alex Odouokpe strike to seal their first victory of the ongoing campaign at the Sharks Stadium.


Sunshine’s Odoukpe hammered a powerful free kick that deflected off Dolphins’ Chidiebere Okolie on the wall and left goalkeeper Austin Brown helpless for an own goal.


The goal left most fans apprehensive but the hosts stepped more on the gas pedal, but had their ex-goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Okenwa, standing between them and every efforts in the first-half of the tie.


The goalkeeper was once more called into action, saving an Isiaka Olawale effort from 12 yards, after after Ifeanyi Egwim was brought down in the penalty area by Sunshine defender.


Early into the second-half, Oduokpe gifted Dolphin the equaliser deflecting Emem Uduok’s strike for an own goal in the 53rd minute.


Both sides kept on each other until Emem Uduok latched into a chance in Sunshine’s goal mouth scramble in the 79th minute and struck in to make it 2 – 1 for Dolphins.


Dolphins occupy the 9th position on the log having won, drawn and loss one each, of their opening three games.
