Associate Editor of The Sun Newspapers, Mr. Ebere Nwabara, who was arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Abia State Police Command, has been released just as the state government, on Sunday, said it was not aware of his arrest.
Information Nigeria reports that Nwabara was arrested in Lagos in the presence of his wife and children on Thursday and after being taken first to Sholoki and later to Oyingbo police stations in Lagos, he was eventually moved to Aba, where it was learnt that he would be charged with sedition.
But following the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, Wabara was, late Saturday, released on bail.
The correspondent of The Sun in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Chuks Onuoha, took Mr. Wabara’s bail, however, he was asked to report to the office of the state Police Commissioner on Monday by 10 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Theodore Orji of Abia, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, on Sunday in Aba stated that the state government was not aware of Wabara’s arrest following speculations that the state police command might have acted on the instruction of the governor.
