Ambassador Aminu Wali stated this at the weekend while receiving the European Union Ambassadors in Nigeria led by the Head of the EU delegation in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Michel Arrion at the ministry.

Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “Nigeria votes against forceful annexation of Crimea by Russia.”

On Nigeria’s stand on Kosovo, the minister said Ukraine’s case is different from Kosovo saying the latter has been on for so many years on which negotiation is still on-going adding that Nigeria is still waiting for the UN agreement on Kosovo.

Ambassador Wali also disclosed Nigeria’s intention and readiness to participate at the up-coming EU-AU summit in Brussels, Belgium despite AU’s position hoping that the issue will be resolved soon before the summit starts.

Reacting to issues of same-s*x law and human rights raised by the envoys, the minister said “Nigeria has always been at the forefront of observance of human rights and our people are against the same-s*x marriage. It is alien and a contradiction to our religious and cultural values. Even in the US only 17 states have adopted the law, Nigeria is really a very religious country.”

Earlier, Ambassador Arrion noted that Nigeria is the only sub-Saharan country with strategic and political partner at the dialogue level with the EU.
