A woman currently living in the United Kingdom by the name of Catherine Howarth, who happens to be Nigerian by heritage, gave birth to a white baby boy three months ago, which is a one in a million occurrence according to scientists.
Catherine Howarth was extremely surprised when she first saw her baby boy, who has white skin with bright green eyes and light brown hair.
“The midwife looked at me and looked back down at Jonah and then at me again and couldn’t believe it,” Howarth said.
According to medical professionals, the baby’s skin color can get darker a few weeks after the baby is born, but the shade at the top of Jonah’s ears indicated his pale white skin would be permanent.
Many people have speculated whether or not the baby is an albino, but according to doctors the child is not albino.
“We have been told I must have been carrying a recessive gene,” Howarth said. “My parents were from Nigeria and, for as far back as anyone can remember, my family has always been black.”
Howarth’s Caucasian husband, Richard, was also surprised by the color of his son’s skin. The father stated his son’s skin color does not matter to him, and all he was worried about was whether or not the baby would be healthy.
Doctors said the couple will probably never produce another white child since the gene needed to produce such a child is needed in a strange combination of various genes.
This is the third case that has ever been reported.
