Salami, Emenike to Start Against South Africa

Warri Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami is set to partner Emmanuel Emenike in Nigeria’s attack against South Africa this (Wednesday) evening in Cape Town.

Both strikers were second-half substitutes against Congo last weekend, as the ‘Diable Rouge’ edged a 5-goal contest 3-2 in Calabar.

Salami’s 89th minute consolation was the only evidence from the Super Eagles’ second-half revival, triggered by Emenike’s inclusion.

The Fenerbahce striker was reportedly benched for reporting late to training camp, paving way for Uche Nwofor to earn his first start.

Israel-based midfielder Nosa Igiebor, who also started from the bench will also be listed in the starting 11 against’ Bafana Bafana’.

Coach Stephen Keshi will retain all four defenders, who started in the weekend’s loss, as well as the midfield pair of John Obi Mikel and Ogenyi Onazi while Ahmed Musa will operate from the wings as usual.

Nigeria trail the hosts and Congo in third place and requires a win to get their bid for a 2015 Africa Cup of nations (Afcon) berth back on track.

Kickoff time: 7:00pm (Nigerian time).
