SSS Arrest Herbalist, Two Others For Kidnapping

The Department of Security Service operating in Anambra has arrested an herbalist, three others in connection with the kidnapping of Charles Onyido, in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Nation, Alex Okeiyi, the State Director of DSS, who made this known on Wednesday, said the suspect is also believed to be responsible for the abduction of an Onitsha based legal practitioner, Ejike Efobi, at Nkpor, in Idemili North local government area on June 5, 2014.


He said the suspects requested the sum of N100 million from the victim’s family to secure his release.


Okeiyi gave the names of the suspects as Chukwuebuka Okafor (a.k.a- Ichafu, head scarf) 25; and Ernest Elem (a.k.a Lamborghini) as well as Ajana Onyibor, a 68- year-old herbalist who hails from Igbakwu, Ayamelum council area of the state.


The DSS director said the victim was rescued from Onyibor’s shrine after spending three days in captivity. He said the herbalist who is believed to be providing spiritual protection for the syndicate was arrested with the help of Oyi vigilance group as well as some police officers operating in the area.


It would be recalled that officials of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Pulo Shield operating in the Niger Delta region recently raided suspected hideouts used by kidnappers at Meibegbemo located at Zobia of Faropo community of Southern Ijaw LGA.
