Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has explained that he has no personal grouse against former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The governor, who stated this at the weekend in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, while featuring on a monthly Radio and Television programme tagged ‘Meet Your Governor’, said it would be wrong for anybody to see his recent comments targeted at the former president as an attempt to settle personal scores with him.
Fayose’s first term in office was brought to a premature end in 2006 when he was dramatically impeached by 24 out of 26 lawmakers, who purportedly acted on the orders of then President Obasanjo. Since then, both men have viewed each other with mutual suspicion.
However, debunking the insinuation that his recent comments were personally motivated, Fayose insisted that it was meant to save the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He further said that Nigerians especially members of the PDP must consider the continued attack on President Goodluck Jonathan and the party by Obasanjo as something that must be condemned by all.
Fayose said, “This is not a question of whether somebody is elderly or not, but when you see somebody continuously attacking the vehicle conveying members of the PDP, then that person must be checked. The PDP is like a moving train and when you see somebody shooting sporadically at it, those inside must talk or raise alarm if they must survive the onslaught”.
The governor alleged that Mr. Obasanjo is more at home with the opposition, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that this informed the strange romance between them.
Fayose also urged members of the PDP to rise and protect the party against the antics of those he called internal and external enemies.
