An accident that occurred at the Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at around 10am on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of two people while four more were injured.
The accident according to the Tribune online occurred around 9:48 a.m. Tuesday morning, when an 18-seater bus plunged into a river. RCC men who were working at the scene which was not far from Dominion Varsity said the driver was on a high speed when one of his back tyres burst.
He was said to have tried to apply the break in order to stop the vehicle but could no longer control it and the vehicle crashed into a river.
The vehicle, Nigerian Tribune learnt was coming from Iwo-Road. Some of those rescued were seen bleeding on the grounding waiting for help. Many of those who stopped were not ready to take the victims to the hospital.
A call was said to have been put to the Federal Road Safety Commision, FRSC, but they didn’t show up early enough as of the time the reporter left the scene of the incident.
When a military vehicle passed by the scene, many people thought they would stop and render assistance but to their disappointment, they didn’t.
Rescue operation was however, still ongoing to bring out those who were trapped in the vehicle. It was learnt that the driver and three others sustained no injury.
Lagos Ibadan expressway is a notoriously dangerous expressway due to the high rate of accidents on the road which is mostly caused by the bad road which is already under reconstruction.
The expressway used to field 4 lanes but it is now being reconstructed to accommodate 6 lanes. Construction on the road has been on-going for close to 5 years now.
