Ekiti: APC, PDP Disagree over alleged Plans to Tamper With Election Ballot Papers

APC-FayoseThe Ekiti State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress in the state has concluded plans to tamper with the ballot papers used during the just-concluded state House of Assembly elections.

To this effect, the party has written a letter to the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun, to use his offices to stop the alleged plan.

In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, the Ekiti PDP Chairman, Chief Idowu Faleye, alleged that the grand plan had been concluded to collude with some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to void some votes that were cast for the PDP in the poll.

Faleye said there had been wide spread speculation that the APC had already mobilised people to perfect the plans as put down by the leadership of the party.

He said, “This is not a new strategy of the opposition party because they did the same thing immediately after the 2007 election, which was then termed as voting after voting by the PDP. So, this time round, we shall resist this undemocratic tendencies”.

Faleye wondered why the opposition party had never been happy with Ekiti people, “since its governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was defeated in the June 21, 2014 governorship election won by Governor Ayodele Fayose”.

Reacting to the allegation, the Ekiti APC spokesman, Chief Taiwo Olatubosun, described the claim as “unfounded”, saying it was a “rumour that is existing in the imagination of the person”, who is spreading it.

Olatunbosun added, “This might be a pointer to what they are doing or what they attempt to do because we know nothing about what they are talking about.

“PDP should be thoroughly monitored by INEC since they are saying this because they are master riggers. When they are trying to do something, they blame it on innocent groups or persons”.
