Confederation Cup: Wolves Edge FCMK in Warri

Nigeria’s lone-standing flag bearers in continental championship, Warri Wolves, scraped a narrow win over FCMK of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday.

Wolves beat FCMK 2-1 in a Caf Confederation Cup second round first-leg tie in Warri, courtesy of a Gbolahan Salami brace.

Gbolahan, who celebrated his birthday in then midweek, opened scoring within five minutes of kickoff at the Warri City stadium. He closed out victory 18 minutes from time, after the visitors had forced a vital away goal from set-piece.

The Seasiders missed several chances to put the game to bed and would have to put up an emphatic performance in the reverse, so as to stand a chance of advancing into the money-spinning group stages at the expense of FCMK who trounced Ahly Shandy of Sudan 5-1 in Kinshasa to reach the present stage.
