Ex-Gov. Niyi Adebayo, Minister Lampoon PDP Defectors

PDP-Members-Defect-To-APCA former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, and Minister of State for Works, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, have expressed worry over the gale of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party defecting to All Progressives Congress since the latter won the march 28 presidential election.

The two, in separate interviews with journalists in Iyin Ekiti and Ise Ekiti respectively, advised the defectors to stay back in their party to build a virile opposition party in order to strengthen our democracy.

Mr. Adebayo, a chieftain of the APC, said he had remained in his party, starting from its days as Alliance for Democracy, advising politicians to have ideologies people could identify them with.

Adeyeye, who said he would remain in the PDP, described the action of the defectors as a “serious concern and worrisome”.

He said, “I advise the PDP members to rebuild the party; we need to have a viable opposition. I think people should stay in their party and work for the success of their party.

“I am not going to defect, I don’t believe APC will do better than PDP”.

Adeyeye said the loss of the PDP at the presidential poll would rather afford leaders of the party the opportunity to go back to the drawing board.

The minister added, “You need this kind of jolt to look back, I know a lot of things are wrong with the PDP; so, it is an opportunity to review ourselves and re-strategize.

“I can tell you these people (APC) cannot go far. I am aware that some of the big shots are already thinking of coming back to the PDP.

“But the real opposition that will be offered is not from the PDP but Nigerians, having been able to experience this (PDP) government. Nigerians should not fear that there won’t be a virile opposition”.
