Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, in a last minute attempt to shore up support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Akinwumi Ambode, has met with members of the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

This came as the chairman of the state NURTW, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, directed commercial drivers, motorcycle and tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke Marwa, under the umbrella of the union in the state, to vote for Ambode and all the candidates of APC for the House of Assembly on April 11.

Agbede gave the directive at Abule-Egba, Lagos, during a monthly meeting with officers of the 120 branches of the union, drawn from the 57 local government areas and LCDAs of the state.

“Why we must support APC is because the people of Lagos State have really enjoyed dividends of democracy,” he said.

He added that some of the policies of the present administration had helped to boost transport business in the state. The introduction of transport radio had helped to reduce traffic congestion and waste of time in traffic snarl.

“The constant repair and maintenance of roads has helped to reduce wear and tear of our vehicles. The state government’s constantly fixing bad roads through its agencies and this has also helped to reduce the number of days we visit mechanics, hence, our decision to support the party for continuity in the state,” Agbede said.
