Guber Polls: Ogun SDP Denies Plan to go Into Alliance with PDP

sdpAhead of the April 11 governorship election, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Ogun State Chapter, on Sunday denied speculations that it was planning to go into an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The governorship candidate of the party, Akin Odunsi, accompanied by his running mate, Segun Adesegun, and the party chairman, Olu Agemo, made the denial at a press conference held at Iwe-Iroyin, Press Centre, Abeokuta.

Mr. Odunsi said the SDP is a disciplined political party and will not have anything to do with the PDP.

Odunsi, who expressed optimism that his party will emerge victorious in the governorship as well as house of assembly poll this Saturday, said the rumoured merger with the PDP was sponsored against the party.

He said SDP was capable to go to the poll all alone.

“Today, we wish to put the record straight on some wicked news items that rented the airwaves two days ago. It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous elements are out to damage our party’s credibility, image and integrity, hence, this press briefing”, Mr. Odunsi said.

“I state categorically and emphatically that our party has neither the intention nor plan to merge with any political party. So there is no iota of truth in the damaging news item which we in SDP describe as malicious, unfounded, baseless and a wild imagination which could only have existed in the authors mind”, he added.

In his remark, the Ogun SDP chairman, Olu Agemo, said the party was borne out of principles and ideology and would welcome people of like minds to work in the interest of the party.
