The Governor-elect of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai on Sunday, said his victory at Saturday’s governorship election was a victory for democracy.
Mr. El-Rufai of the Peoples Democratic Party polled a staggering 1,117,365 to defeat incumbent Governor Mukhtar Yero of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 485,833.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, spoke to reporters at the party’s campaign office in Kaduna after he was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, promised to fulfill his campaign promises.
He also promised to govern the state with equity, fairness and justice, adding that under his administration, there would be no discrimination.
El-Rufai said, “I will govern the state with equity, fairness and justice, I will equally use the resources of the state to develop and better the lives of the people of the state.
“In our government, there will be no discrimination of any kind on the basis of religion, ethnicity, settler or indigene, everybody resident in the state will be given equal treatment”.
Meanwhile, the Senator-elect for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, who was present at the campaign office where Governor-elect El-rufai delivered his acceptance speech, has described the victory of the APC as liberation from the PDP’s 16 years of misrule.
“The total Eradication of the PDP from our political landscape and our lives is the only way of cleansing our country of pests and parasites, who strangled and suffocated our people for sixteen years”, he said.
