PDP Wins Rescheduled Edo South Senatorial Election

OSAGIE-URHOGHIDEThe Edo South senatorial election, which held on Saturday alongside the state’s house of assembly polls, has again been won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This would be the second time the election would be conducted, after it was first cancelled on March 28 over the unavailability of result sheets and other electoral materials in the entire Orhiomwon Local Government Area, six wards in Uhumwode; some wards and units in Ikpoba Okha; Ovia North-East; Ovia South-West and Oredo local government areas.

The Edo South Collation Officer, Prof. Joseph Osemekhia, on Sunday declared the PDP candidate, Matthew Urhoghide winner amid wild jubilation by his supporters, who filled the Urhokpota Hall, venue of the announcement.

Urhoghide was declared winner having polled 139,784 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Mr. Samson Osagie of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 117,759.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the announcement, Urhoghide said he would pray for wisdom to enable him carry out his responsibilities to his constituency.

He said, “This is the beginning of another life for me; I am grateful to the electorate for the confidence they have twice reposed in me; both on the March 28 and yesterday. These are one of the most memorable days of my life”.
