The Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN) has demanded the sack of the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, the leadership of the Directorate for State Service (DSS) and all the service chiefs in the country as part of a way to overhaul the entire security system of the nation.
National Coordinator of the group, Okechukwu Nwanguma, said this yesterday, while briefing newsmen on NOPRIN’s police reform agenda for president-elect Muhammadu Buhari.
“There is the urgent need for the newly elected President, upon being sworn in to immediately, and in short term, overhaul the entire security architecture of Nigeria to insulate our military, police and SSS from partisan political control and enhance professionalism.
“The Inspector-General of police and all heads of similar compromised security services as well as all senior officers who had been politically exposed, should be retired compulsorily to restore integrity in the service.
“The current I-G lacks the will, professionalism, the leadership qualification and competence to lead a police in a modern democracy.
“All service chiefs, the Director of DSS, the Inspector-General of Police and all heads of similarly compromised security services as well as senior officers, who have been politically exposed should be retired compulsorily to restore integrity and professionalism in our security services,” Nwanguma said.
