In 1997, Guo Gangtang’s 2-year-old son was abducted from outside his house. Since then, the now 45-year-old father has spent the last 18 years driving a motorcycle throughout China, hoping to find the boy. Oddity central reports:
18 years is a long time to be on the road, and Guo Gangtang’s wrinkled face constantly caked with dirt is a testament of what he has had to endure all this time. However, his physical pain is nothing compared to the anguish he has been carrying in his heart for almost two decades. He and his wife have never taken a single family photo since Guo Zhen’s abduction, always putting it off in the hopes that they will one day be a complete family again.
He has covered 400,000 kilometers and burned through 10 motorcycles looking for his son, and doesn’t plan on giving up anytime soon. “I keep telling myself, ‘maybe tomorrow Guo comes back,’ but that ‘tomorrow’ is yet to come,” he said. His only worry is that his old home may be demolished while he is on the road, and his son won’t have anything to recognize when he finally finds him. In the hopes that someone might recognize the boy and give him some useful information, Guo always has two flags with an old photo of him strapped to his motorcycle.
