Benue North-East Seat: Sen. Gemade Denies Trying To Kill Suswam

Barnabas GemadeThe Senator representing Benue North-East senatorial district, Barnabas Gemade, yesterday distanced himself from the widely peddled allegations in the state that he had perfected plans to assassinate Governor Gabriel Suswam, describing the allegation as a calculated ploy by some mischievous politicians to rubbish his image.

The former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the clarification on Sunday in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

He insisted that he had never in his political carrier attempted to assassinate any rivals or their character.

Gov. Suswam is reportedly eyeing the Benue North-East senatorial seat and has to contend with Gemade for the PDP ticket to represent the district in the National Assembly.

This is even as unsubstantiated rumors claim that the senator had failed in his bid to assassinate Suswam.

However, the elder statesman described the rumor as untrue, adding that some politicians were cooking up allegations to drive a wedge between him and Governor Suswam especially now that he (Gemade) had declared his intention to re-contest for the seat.

According to the senator, he is determined and not joking with his quest to contest and retain his seat in 2015, stressing that no amount of political maneuvering from some political quarters would deter him.

“I am going in for second term and I will win the seat. I was unopposed when I contested in 2011, it was a keen contest and even at that time, some persons attempted to deep hand in it. But for those that are saying they made me senator, they are only joking.

“I have not failed in attempt to assassinate Suswam as widely reported by men who are bent to pull people down and cause mischief. I have never assassinated anybody since my political carrier but I want to contest this senatorial election to enhance rapid development to the people”, Gemade stated.
