First Lady Enjoins Women To Intensify Prayers For Boko Haram Repentance At Ramadan

First LadyThe First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Saturday urged Muslim women across Africa and especially those in Nigeria, to reflect on new ways to spread the culture of sustainable peace and harmonious coexistence in their communities.

She made the call in her Ramadan message made available to journalists by her spokesperson, Mrs. Ayotunde Adesugba.

The wife of the president said as Muslim women demonstrate submission to the Almighty by upholding an important pillar of Islamic injunction through the observance of fasting, they should also engage in spiritual introspection and rededicate themselves to God.

Mrs Jonathan stressed that as women, they should always strive to inculcate the virtues of tolerance, peace and humility in their children and wards.

She noted that these are important values that should be embraced by Moslems and non-Moslems alike.

The statement added, “The First Lady called on women, in the spirit of the holy month, to intensify prayers to change the hearts of those who are misguided into perpetrating violence and urged all Nigerians to shun acts capable of fanning the embers of hate, mistrust and instability.

“While praying God to endow the Moslem faithful with the strength to successfully undertake the Ramadan fast, she said that the Almighty will surely reward their piety and diligent observance of the strictures of the holy month”.
