Top seed Novak Djokovic sealed a comfortable win over Frenchman Gilles Simon to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon.
Even an injury scare in the third set of the contest couldn’t deter the Serbian from claiming a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win.
Djokovic was leading 3-2 in the third set when he dived to reach a forehand and appeared to twist his left arm.
The 2011 champion was able to continue play after a trainer stretched his shoulder.
“It was obviously a scary fall,” said six-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic, who had an ultrasound after the match.
“Luckily for me it only had a minor effect on the joint and the muscles around it and caused no significant damage. It’s looking good.”
The world number two will play 14th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga next after Frenchman beat Jimmy Wang 6-2, 6-2, 7-5.
“Tsonga’s a great grass-court player, he loves the energy of the big stadium and it is going to be a big challenge for both of us,” said Djokovic.
South Africa’s Kevin Anderson needed a decider to beat 16th seed Fabio Fognini 4-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Anderson, seeded 20th, will face defending champion Andy Murray, who cruised past Bautista Agut 6-2 6-3 6-2 in Centre Court late Friday evening.
Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt set a record of the highest number (42) five set match in Grand Slam tournaments in the Open era in his 7-5, 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 4-6, 6-3 loss to Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz.
Colombian Santiago Giraldo beat 30th seed Marcel Granollers 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 1-6 6-1 7-5 to set up a third-round match against seven-time champion Roger Federer.
Spain’s 19th seed Feliciano Lopez reached round three with a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 defeat of Croatia’s Ante Pavic and will play America’s ninth seed John Isner next.
Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, the world number 42, beat Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-0 and will play either sixth seed Tomas Berdych or Marin Cilic in round four.
