Barcelona threw away a two-goal lead to share the spoils with Sevilla 2-2 in the La Liga on Saturday and hand Real Madrid a lifeline.
Kevin Gameiro rescued a point for Sevilla six minutes from time after Ever Benega had halved the home team’s deficit.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring for the Spanish Primera division leader in the 14th minute with a curled effort, and Neymar doubled the lead on 31 minutes with a lovely free-kick.
The draw reduced Barca’s lead over Real at the top of the standings to just two points after Carlo Ancelotti’s men secured a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Eibar earlier in the day.
Sevilla thus remain unbeaten at home this season and stay fifth in the table, as Barca fail to claim a tenth consecutive win.
