The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, who made this known while addressing a press conference in Bauchi, said: “it has come to the knowledge of the state police command that some desperate politicians are planning to disrupt the gubernatorial and House of Assembly election. The command warns that it will not fold its arm and watch disgruntled elements truncate the relative peace in the state which it is working assiduously to maintain”.
Mohammed, a deputy superintendent of police, advised members of the public to be law abiding and conduct themselves peacefully by shunning all forms of electoral offenses and thuggery before, during and after the election as anyone found wanting, will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the federation.
Reiterating the warning handed down by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba, the Bauchi Police Command’s spokesperson said “On no account should uninformed private/ government security agencies and voluntary organizations such as Boys Scout, Vigilante group, Boys Brigade, peace ambassadors and other quasi paramilitary organizations be seen in uniform within 300 meters of a polling unit”.
Mohammed also renewed the command’s warning to all security details attached to political office holders in the state – to desist from accompanying their principals to polling booths and collation centers during the election.
He stressed the command’s commitment to security of lives and property before, during and after the elections.
