Pro-Fayose Lawmakers Denounce Plan By APC Lawmakers To Impeach Gov

APC-FayoseThe factional Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Dele Olugbemi, has rubbished the purported notice of impeachment against Governor Ayodele Fayose and his Deputy, Dr Olusola Eleka, by the 19 All Progressives Congress members of the assembly.

In petitions to the State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, and Director of the Department of State Service, Samuel Tamuno, Olugbemi called for the prosecution of the embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, for engaging in forgery, impersonation and attempt to cause breach of the public peace.

It would be recalled that Seven Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers loyal to Fayose had on November 20, 2014 impeached Omirin and his deputy, Tunji Orisalade.

Olugbemi, an ally of the governor was installed as the Speaker by the faction and had been presiding over the Assembly, while the remaining 19, led by Omirin, fled the state alleging threats to their lives.

In his petition to the heads of the security agencies in the state, Olugbemi described the notice of impeachment as a ploy by the APC to distract the State Government.

According to him, the Assembly never sat at any time to deliberate, or pass any Motion for the impeachment of Fayose.

In an April 4 letter written to the State Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, Olugbemi said, “Dr Adewale Omirin, who signed the purported Impeachment Notice as Speaker of the State House of Assembly, was duly impeached at the plenary session of the House on November 20, 2014.”

The letter signed by Olugbemi and Clerk of the House, Joseph Tola Esan read, “Our attention has been drawn to publications in some Online newspapers of a purported notice to impeach the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, by the State House of Assembly.

“The purported Notice of Impeachment dated March 9, 2015 was signed by Dr Adewale Omirin, who claimed to be the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

“We wish to dissociate the Ekiti State House of Assembly from the purported impeachment notice, as the House never sat at any time to deliberate, and or pass any Motion for Impeachment of Mr Ayodele Fayose”.
