Rodgers Rejects Rumours of a Crisis Meeting after Liverpool’s Defeat By Arsenal

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has debunked reports of a heated meeting after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat by Arsenal.

The defeat at the Emirates Stadium- the Reds’ second on the trot- left the Merseyside outfit’s Champions League ambition hanging on the balance as they presently trail by seven points in the race for a ticket to Europe.

“We have lots of meetings here analyzing performance and this one was no different,” Rodgers said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup quarter-final replay against Blackburn.

The Northern Irish boss also defended his players’ “commitment and focus” and recants he has conceded hopes of a top-four finish, despite saying on Saturday he “very much doubted” they would qualify for the Champions League.

“The team might be short of certain elements but in terms of commitment and focus, it’s pretty clear,” he added.

“After the game I gave an answer which was logical in terms of the difficulty we have but it is not certainly a mindset.

“Our attitude is to go right to the end. We would have to win our seven games but it is certainly something we will go into in order to do that.”

He said the FA Cup replay at Blackburn Rovers offers a perfect opportunity to get the team back on their track to a possible flourish at the end of the season.

“It’s important to have a game quickly when you lose,” he said. “The group’s very committed to winning this trophy.

“We know Blackburn will be a difficult game for us, but getting to a final and winning a trophy is what we want.”
