Comptroller-General Of Prisons Summons Warders In Kaduna Over Kachia Jailbreak

KADUNA CENTRAL PRISON

KADUNA CENTRAL PRISON

The Comptroller-General of Prisons, Mr. Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, has summoned warders in Kaduna State to shed more light on the recent jailbreak at a prison facility in Kachia town, during which five inmates escaped.

The closed-door meeting, held at the Kaduna Prison, was also said to have proffered solutions to the rising wave of jailbreaks in the country.

It would be recalled that inmates in Kachia Prison, few weeks ago, attacked warders at night and escaped in the process. Also, gunmen have lately attacked prisons in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State; Akure, Ondo, Ekiti State and Minna, Niger State and freed dozens of inmates.

Already, some officials in charge of the prison in Kachia have been dismissed over the incident.

Emerging from the closed-door meeting, Mr. Ekpendu said it was an ‘interactive session’ that identified the best ways to stop jailbreaks, adding that measures were taken to safeguard all correctional facilities across the country.

The Comptroller-General also held an interactive session with the inmates, while calling on parents to guard their children and wards against social vices.

Power: FG Deploys Electronic Monitors To Check Gas Pipelines Vandalization

Mohammad-WakilThe Minister of State for Power, Mr. Mohammed Wakil, on Saturday said the Federal Government had started installing electronic monitors to check the spate of gas pipelines vandalisation, as part of measures aimed at ensuring regular power supply.

The junior minister, who sounded confident that the recent privatisation of the power sector carried out by the present administration would soon yield visible result, said South Africa has started emulating the exercise, which he noted had become a model for many other countries.

He made this known this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.

Wakil boasted that in due course, Nigerians would soon be taking power supply for granted in the country.

He said, “In due course, power supply will become what Nigerians can take for granted. We are expanding investment in transmission sector through involvement of the private sector.

“The distribution companies are investing in system upgrade, like South Africa is about to start.

“The generation companies are busy with upgrade especially after the administration had addressed the gas-to-power issue.

“We are installing electronic monitors to check incessant vandalism of gas pipelines by enemies of the nation”.

Wakil noted that South Africa was already borrowing a leaf from the privatisation model for the transformation of its ailing energy sector.

This, he argued, is a vindication of the durability of the policies and programmes of the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration of which power is one of its core components.

He also claimed that the crisis rocking the South African power sector had necessitated the country to draft a power sector privatization bill now before its parliament.

Wakil said although the nation has not reached its desired destination in terms of uninterrupted power supply, “we are on the road to reaching that goal. We have passed critical stage: we are now on the final lap”.

Certificate Controversy: Clear Your Name Of Forgery, Perjury Before Calling For ‘Change’ – Jonathan Tells Buhari

Jonathan-BuhariPresident Goodluck Jonathan has challenged the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) to clear his name of charges of alleged certificate forgery and perjury.

Jonathan, in a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said the former head of state must stop taking Nigerians for granted and show some leadership qualities by taking personal responsibility of clearing his name of the charges.

The president argued that a man could not carry an “undischarged baggage” of alleged certificate forgery and willful perjury and still shout “change” at political rallies.

He added that it was inconceivable that instead of debunking the allegations of forgery and perjury against him, Buhari was rather passing the buck to other persons or organisations.

This action, Jonathan said, did not show any potential of responsible leadership on the part of those wanting to lead Nigeria to shun accountability on their personal credentials.

According to the statement, this tends to suggest that the APC “change” slogan is cosmetic.

The presidential aide said Buhari and the APC mouthing corruption everywhere should clear the air on this matter or forever bury their heads in shame.

He said: “We consider this as a un-statesmanlike assault on the intelligence of Nigerians and it represents the greatest challenge between Gen. Buhari and the office he seeks to occupy. It will be recalled that Buhari has, in the last few weeks, domiciled the custody of his secondary school certificate in three different quarters namely the military board, his former secondary school and now the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“Unfortunately for the APC candidate, the examination body, WAEC, which has the final say on this issue, has also recently declared that it doesn’t have any records of Buhari’s secondary school certificate just as the military authorities did”.

Plot To Shift Polls In Borno: Stop Wasting Your Time, I Won’t Hand Over To Sole Administrator – Shettima

kashim-shettimaGovernor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, yesterday told those plotting to make elections impossible in the state to jettison the idea as he insisted that he will not hand over power to any sole administrator on May 29.

The governor insisted that elections must hold in the state by all means despite the threat posed by insurgency, adding that there was no provision in the constitution that states a democratic government must hand over to a military sole administrator.

Speaking when he presided over the swearing-in of the 50 special advisers he recently appointed, Shettima, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was reacting to the growing concerns amongst citizens in the state that the Independent National Elections Commission (INEC) might not conduct elections in the state, which will give room for a sole administrator to take over power in May when his tenure would have elapsed.

“Any retired soldier or a retired policeman who is waiting to be posted here as a sole administrator is wasting his time, because there is no place in our constitution where a sole administrator is allowed to govern a state during a democratic dispensation”, said the governor.

“In the worst-case scenario, the option is to extend the lifespan of our administration for six months”.

The Borno governor recalled that elections had been conducted in Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya and even Somalia where similar cases of insecurity existed and queried why Nigeria’s case should be different.

“It is unfortunate that some people are calling for the postponement of the February general elections because they know they cannot win election; that is why they are agitating for a postponement”, he said.

The governor, who was visibly perturbed, recalled that in the over 1,000 years of Borno’s chequered history, the people had experienced many adversities and had survived most of them – like the Rabeh Azzubair’s invasion and the Maitatsine crisis – and declared that the Boko Haram insurgency will not be an exception.

He also called on the newly appointed special advisers to collaborate with other cabinet members in order to work for the success of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in next month’s general elections.

“All Nigerians must vote for the APC because change is on air. As such, Nigerians must unite irrespective of race, region, religion and tribe to secure the country because the ruling PDP has failed us all”, Shettima said,

Bird Flu: Bauchi State Govt. Bans Movement Of Poultry, Poultry Products Into State

chickensThe Bauchi State Government has announced the ban on movement of poultry and poultry products into the state from other states battling to contain the outbreak of Avian Influenza, also known as “Bird Flu”.

The Desk Officer, State Avian Influenza Control Programme, Ibrahim Bello, announced the ban on Friday in Bauchi.

The Federal Government had confirmed the outbreak of Bird Flue in 11 states of the federation.

“The Ministry (for Animal Resources and Nomadic Resettlement) has banned the movement of poultry especially from these three states that have recorded outbreaks.

“We are now making efforts to reactivate our control posts and inspection points across the major highways in and out of the state.

“The ministry is trying now to go round to sensitise the chicken sellers in their various markets and to go out with pamphlets to distribute to the general public just to create awareness”.

Mr. Bello said although the state had not recorded any reported case of Bird Flu, the ministry had put in place some measures in case of any eventuality.

He said that the ministry was now trying to resuscitate the State Technical Committee on Bird Flu and the State Rapid Response Team in anticipation of possible outbreak.

Mr. Bello further stated that the veterinary officers in all the 20 local government areas of the state have also been placed on standby.

“We had stakeholders meeting with them and we informed them of the situation in the country as far as Bird Flu is concerned and we tried to update them on movement and control of poultry and poultry products within their domains.

“We also told farmers on the need to improve sanitation and security on their farms so that they don’t allow infections get into their farms.

“And we are trying to sensitise bird vendors and people that roast chickens by the road sides, the restaurateurs preparing pepper soap for the public to make sure that they handle poultry and poultry products with caution”.

He urged farmers in the state to keep new birds away from their farms pending the time the scourge will be curbed and urged consumers to avoid sick birds.

Not less than 75 farmers were affected while over 350,000 chickens were destroyed between 2006 and 2008 during the last outbreak of the disease in the state.

Nigerians Line Up 6,000 Questions For Presidential Debates – NEDG

NEDGGeneral Secretary, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr Isaac Ighure, on Friday said Nigerians had “responded positively” by sending in 6,000 questions for the presidential debates, organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Ighure said the questions would be considered and harmonised by the Questions Harmanisation Committee of the NEDG.

He said the group had, however, forwarded all the thematic areas that questions might be drawn from to all participating political parties to help them prepare for the debates.

Meanwhile, the NEDG has said no party or group had written to say it would not participate in the election debates.

Founding Chairman/Consultant of the NEDG, Chief Taiwo Alimi, said this in an interview with newsmen after a meeting in Abuja on Friday, preparatory to the conduct of the debate.

He said the NEDG had the acknowledgement copies of reminders sent out on Friday.

He assured stakeholders that the body still remained very credible and non-partisan.

“So far, all the political parties are attending the debate beginning from Sunday; there is no party that has written to the NEDG saying it is not going to take part.

“Just earlier today, our secretariat sent out reminders to all the participating political parties and they all signed that they received our letter. Not one is saying it will not come, all the parties will attend”, he said.

He explained that the NEDG was made up of Nigeria Guild of Editors, National Alliance for Credible Elections in Nigeria, Association of Young Professionals, and National Council of Women Societies.

He also named the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, made up of all private and government-owned media houses in Nigeria.

Alimi added, “Therefore, given the composition of the NEDG since 2003, it is an organisation with integrity, with trust, with competence and with experience.

“It remains the largest platform for debate in Nigeria and Africa. Therefore, there is no such thing about being government owned.

“All the privately-owned media houses are part of the NEDG”.

He emphasised that the NEDG was the greatest platform for those who want to let Nigerians know what they would do, how they would do it.

Ighure explained that the meeting was to fine-tune arrangements for a hitch-free conduct of the election debates. (NAN)

Australia Beat Korea Republic to Lift 1st Asian Cup

Substitute James Troisi struck in extra-time to hand Australia their first Asian Cup success after a 2-1 win over Korea Republic in Saturday’s dramatic final in Sydney.

The host nation were 1-nill up shortly before half-time courtesy of a Massimo Luongo effort from long range. The Socceroos were headed for a historic success, but for Son Heungmin’s stoppage time leveler to force the game into extra-time.

Troisi was in hand to collect a goalkeeper Kim Jinhyeon clearance off Kim Jinsu’s cross and drive the ball into the roof of the net as Australia claimed their first title since switching lane from Oceania nine years ago.

It was a sweet revenge of their 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Koreans in the group stage.

The Australians were on the back foot for most of the 45 minutes before midfielder Luongo broke the deadlock against the run of play with the last kick of the half.

Son’s moment of brilliance stunned the 76,000 crowd gathered at Stadium Australia seconds from full time, after the Taeguk Warriors superstar got on the edge of a clever flick by captain Ki Sungyueng to burst into space and fire past goalkeeper Mathew Ryan

Troisi provided the highlight of the match at the end of the opening quarter of extra-time to help Australia become the first hosts to lift the trophy since Japan in 1992.

Presidential Debate: APC’s Refusal To Participate In Presidential Debate ‘Great Disappointment’ – Chekwas Okorie

Chekwaspresidential candidate of the United Progressives Party, Chekwas Okorie, Muhamadu Buhari, presidential debate, All Progressives Congress

The presidential candidate of the United Progressives Party, UPP, Chekwas Okorie, has pleaded with his All Progressives Congress counterpart, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to reconsider his decision not to attend the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria-organized presidential debate.

The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation had announced Thursday that its candidate would not participate in the debate organized by the BON because most of its members are sympathetic to PDP’s cause.

The presidential debate has been slated for February 8, 2015 from 7-9P.M and will be aired live on AIT, NTA, TV Continental and Silverbird TV.

However, faulting Mr. Buhari’s decision to shun the debate, which saw him paired with the presidential candidates of the APC, PDP (Goodluck Jonathan) and KOWA (Comfort Oluremi Sonaiya), Mr. Okorie in a statement Friday said: “The news that the APC presidential candidate, General Buhari, will not participate in the scheduled debates is a great disappointment”.

The UPP presidential candidate said he was looking forward to the debate because “the match-up was consistent with independent poling around the country that identified President Jonathan’s PDP, General Buhari’s APC, and Chief Okorie’s UPP as the three most serious contenders in the highly anticipated general elections to choose Nigeria’s next president for a four-year term”.

He, therefore, said he did not find the rationale given by the APC for withdrawing from the debates convincing.

“My Vice Presidential candidate, Barrister Bello Umar (SAN) and I are ready for the debates. I urge my compatriot, General Buhari, to reject his advisors’ voices and show up for the debates. That is what the nation and the international community expect of him”, Mr. Okorie added.

We’re Undeterred By Election Tribunal’s Verdict On Niger East Senate Seat – PDP

SHEM ZAGBAYI

SHEM ZAGBAYI

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on its members to remain calm and committed to winning the forthcoming general elections.

This is contained in a statement issued by Hassan Saba, Public Relations Officer of PDP in Niger State in Minna on Friday.

The statement followed the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal’s verdict nullifying the election of Nuhu Zagbayi, PDP, in favour of David Umaru of the All progressives Congress (APC) on January 30.

A by-election was held in August 2014 in which Zagbayi was declared winner.

The statement said PDP was studying the judgment.

“PDP remains the winning party. The judgment will make the party more determined to win the forthcoming general elections across the country.

“We call on our teeming supporters to remain calm. The judgment has further motivated us to work harder to harness established electoral fortunes of the PDP.

“We are not deterred, we have been victorious, and we will always remain committed to sustain our victories in the state since 1999.

“I call on our party faithful to collect their voter cards before the general elections.

“You must get your voter cards to elect PDP candidates across all elective positions especially the zone B senatorial candidate”, it added. (NAN)

Jonathan Will Win 2015 Presidential Election By Over 64% – PDP

GEJThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has carried out a review of its presidential campaigns so far and come to the conclusion that with the overwhelming support from Nigerians across the six geo-political zones, it is sure that President Goodluck Jonathan will win convincingly by over 64 percent in the February 14 presidential elections.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, who stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja on Friday, also said that President Jonathan was well received in the North, noting that the isolated cases of attacks on his convoy by a handful of sponsored miscreants in some northern states does not in any way reflect the true feelings of the region regarding the president.

“Our campaigns have been very successful and the President has been wonderfully received by Nigerians in all parts of the country. We have ran a superior campaign with our record of performance and Nigerians are convinced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari are no alternatives to the PDP and President Jonathan. If elections hold today, it is certain that President Jonathan will record a sweeping victory across board. In fact, we will win with over 64 percent”, Metuh said.

Metuh said the campaigns have thrown up very salient issues including exposing the emptiness of the APC and its flagbearer, their lack of policy direction, lack of capacity and right temperament to handle the complexity of leadership at the highest level.

APC, according to the spokesman of the ruling party, has shown that it has nothing to offer Nigerians apart from propaganda, insults, promoting of violence, wild allegations and impracticable promises adding also that Nigeria are not comfortable with the caliber of their candidates and leaders who have proven to be “desperate and selfish”.

Stating that the APC has continued to expose its insincerity, the ruling PDP dismissed promises by APC leaders that they will solve Nigeria’s problems within a year and end insurgency in four months. The party recalled Mr. Buhari’s statement in a recent interview he granted The Cable News, an online news platform, in which he admitted that “for anybody to come and create an impression that he can work wonders is a lie”.

Mr. Metuh also quoted the APC presidential flag bearer in the same interview as saying that “Nigerians have to be prepared to suffer for at least five more straight years before we can stabilize this country” arguing that such is an admission that he (Buhari) has no clear-cut blue print for governance.

He added that Buhari’s body language and utterances have continued to betray his inner acceptance of incompetence and lack of capacity to move Nigeria to the next level.

Also reacting to the unsavoury utterances of some support groups and individuals canvassing for votes for the president, Mr. Metuh said although the party was not responsible for the utterances, it has already taken precautionary measures to check such in the overall interest of the nation. He said President Jonathan enjoys the support of a majority of Nigerians and not only from the South South.

“President Jonathan can even be more loved in Sokoto than in Bayelsa his home state, President Jonathan can even be more loved in the South-West than the South-South. Mr. President is not an Ijaw President but the President of the entire nation”, Mr. Metuh said.

He, therefore, urged all supporters of the PDP and the president to be guided by the lofty founding ideals of the PDP for which it enjoys the support of Nigerians.

Aisha Buhari Campaigns For Peaceful Elections

Aisha-Muhammadu-BuhariMrs. Aishatu Buhari, the wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged women to work for peaceful general elections next month.

Mrs. Buhari, who was represented by Zainab Nyako, made the call on Friday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, while addressing an APC Women Presidential Campaign Initiative town hall meeting.

According to Mrs. Nyako, women have a critical role to play towards a peaceful election and victory of APC at all levels.

“It is also imperative, for us to educate our party members on peaceful conduct before, during and after elections”, Mrs. Nyako said.

“We should avoid violence in all its ramifications because this is one area that the ruling party is looking up to discredit the efforts and successes of our party”, she added.

Mrs. Nyako also stressed the need for voter education and urged women coordinators of Buhari campaign organization in the state and local government levels to canvass for votes – door to door and person to person.

Speaking at the meeting, the Adamawa Coordinator of the Women Presidential Campaign Initiative, Faith Pukuma, and Adamawa APC Women Leader, Hauwa Koma, declared the commitment of the party’s women to mobilize voters for the APC.

They also vowed to redouble their campaign efforts in Adamawa State since it is the home state of Mrs. Buhari.

APC Welcomes Presidency, PDP’s Denial of Sponsoring Calls for Elections Postponement

GEJ-Lai-MohammedThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed the statement by the Presidency/Peoples Democratic Party distancing themselves from the ongoing campaign for next month’s general elections to be postponed, saying both must now back up their words with action by cutting off the funding for the surreptitious campaign immediately.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said having seen that the election-shift campaign has been rejected by Nigerians, the Presidency and the PDP have wisely backed away from it, that is if they can be trusted to mean what they say.

The opposition party, however, called on all Nigerians, as well as local and international observers, who have started arriving for the elections, to closely monitor developments as the elections approach, because the Presidency and the PDP have proven time and again that they cannot be trusted to keep their words.

“Election is a process, not a one-day affair. That is why we are delighted that some foreign observers have already arrived for the Feb. 14th and 28th polls. Now they must pay a very close attention to the preparations for the elections, the relentless campaign to shift the polls, including through the use of pseudo analysts and the sponsorship of a rash of court cases seeking to stop the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, at all cost.

“We know their last joker is the court, amid the unpleasant rumours that a pliable Judge has been procured with millions of dollars to disqualify our candidate. But we strongly believe that the judiciary will do all that is possible to keep its integrity intact and not be a party to desperate efforts to scuttle the elections and trigger a constitutional crisis”, APC said.

The party also called on local and international observers to take note of the threats of violence emanating from a section of the country ahead of the elections.

“The ex-militants from the Niger Delta have openly threatened the very existence of the country if President Goodluck Jonathan fails to win the forthcoming presidential election. The implication is that, as far as they are concerned, the votes of the people do not count and elections are won by fiat. This is a recipe for violence and disaster”, it said.

The APC spokesman noted that though the Presidency and the PDP have belatedly distanced themselves from the threats, their disclaimer is as tepid as it is unreliable, since they are the unseen hands behind the threats anyway.

“This is why we are calling for vigilance from all stakeholders in the next few days before the Feb. 14th and 28th elections. We must not allow desperate politicians to plunge our nation into chaos. Elections are not war, but a celebration of democracy. There will always be winners and losers, hence no one should threaten others if he or she loses”, the party said.

Presidential Debate: APC Shielding Nigerians From Buhari’s Intellectual Laziness – PDP

buhariiiThe Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) on Friday said the decision by the All Progressives Congress not to participate in the presidential debate being organized by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) is simply a feeble excuse by the party to shield from Nigerians and the international audience its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari’s intellectual laziness.

It also alleged that it was also meant to hide Mr. Buhari’s inability to constructively engage on contemporary national issues in a live television and radio debate.

The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation had announced Thursday that its candidate would not be taking part in the debate organized by the BON because most of its members are supporters of the ruling party.

However, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Femi Fani-Kayode, the PDPPCO said APC knew that its candidate would flunk it if he was subjected to the rigours of debate on issues of national governance and development.

The organization also said it was aware that the APC had already expressed its concerns when approached by an international news channel for a debate about the intellectual acumen of Mr. Buhari, and had assured the news channel that it was only comfortable with its vice presidential candidate, Yemi Osinbajo, who has capacity to feature brilliantly on the programme.

“We have just read a report in the media credited to the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation that the party would not allow its candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to participate in the radio and television presidential debate organized by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON”, the statement said.

“The APC accused the organisers of the debate of unhidden bias and campaign of calumny by some key organisers of the programme against the corporate political interest of the party and its candidates.

“Whilst we will not bother ourselves with the many reasons adduced by the APC, we wish to state that we see the APC’s decision as an attempt to shield its presidential candidate from displaying his intellectual laziness and inability to constructively engage contemporary national issues in a live television and radio debate.

“We had envisaged that the APC would be reluctant to expose Mr. Buhari to the rigours of a live television debate because the opposition party knows that its candidate will flunk it. If the APC truly believes that it is ‘a party of progressive intellectuals’, as it claims it should allow General Buhari to prove that at the debate”.

The organisation said if the APC failed to participate in the debate, it would also show the disdain both the party and its candidate have for the Nigerian people.

Fani-Kayode added that the opposition would have denied Nigerians the opportunity to make informed choices on the basis of what each candidate will articulate as propositions on issues that will be raised.

It said, “We are convinced that General Buhari does not have what it takes to sustain a coherent argument on germane issues of governance and development.

“We challenge General Buhari to a debate on any national and international medium of mass communication and our candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, will be ready to participate.

“On the other hand, President Jonathan’s running mate, Vice President Namadi Sambo, is also ready to participate in the debate and any other debate.

“Our presidential candidate and his running mate will not raise flimsy and escapist excuses such as ‘unhidden bias’ and the like, since we believe that they are well-rounded intellectuals who have been prepared by their experience in office to answer any question under the sun on the governance of our nation”.

Jonathan’s Admittance Of Failure In N/Delta Enough Reason To Reject Him At The Polls – Amaechi Tells South-South

Jonathan-and-Amaechi-360x225Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State said on Thursday in Benin City, Edo State that President Goodluck Jonathan admitted in Port Harcourt a day earlier during his presidential campaign that he has failed the people of South-south for not impacting meaningfully in the region.

The Rivers governor noted that with the self-confessions of failure by President Jonathan, the people of South-south should not waste their votes on him come February 14.

He said, “My people, President Goodluck Jonathan came to Rivers State on Wednesday and admitted that, he (Jonathan) has failed in his responsibility to the people of the region. Is that not enough to tell him to go home and rest? After six years, there is nothing to show our people that this what our President Goodluck Jonathan has done for us, haba!

“This our brother President Goodluck Jonathan is telling our Rivers State people that I will do this, I will do that and after six years. Haba!

“For me and my brother Adams Oshiomhole, what we tell our people is what we have done, not I will do”.

Hull 0-3 Newcastle: Ameobi Scores in 1st Win Under Carver

Sammy Ameobi scored his second goal of the season to help Newcastle claim a comfortable 3-0 win at Hull City.

Remy Cabella opened his goal-scoring account for the season when he slotted in Newcastle’s first from 20 yards to ensure the Magpies take the lead into the break.

Hull’s Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady had the ball in the net using his fist in first half injury time, but his celebration was cut short by referee Phil Dowd.

Ameobi drilled an absolute belter into the far corner before Yoan Gouffran’s shot wrong-footed goalkeeper Alan McGregor after taking a deflection off Elmohamady’s body.

Hull have won just two of their last 13 Premier League games and are down in the relegation zone with 19 points from 23 games.

The win was ‘Magpies’ caretaker boss John Carver’s first since Alan Pardew’s departure to Crystal Palace and they are rest assured of some few hours berth in the top half of the table.

Italy Elects Senior Judge, Sergio Mattarella As President

Sergio Mattarella attends a meeting in Rome

Italian lawmakers has elected Sergio Mattarella, who is a seasoned constitutional court judge and veteran center-left politician, as president on Saturday, handing a welcome political victory to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. Reuters report:

Mattarella, speaking at his office in the Constitutional Court after the vote, said: “My first thoughts are of the difficulties and hopes of our citizens.”

The election shows the 40-year-old Renzi in firm control of both his famously fractious party and his allies in the ruling majority as he seeks to pass reforms aimed at underpinning an economic recovery in Italy, where unemployment is soaring after six years of on-off recession.

After three inconclusive rounds of voting this week in which a two-thirds majority was needed, his candidate Mattarella was elected in the fourth round, when the required quorum fell to a simple majority. As the ballots were counted out loud in the Chamber of Deputies, the 1,009 parliamentarians and regional officials eligible to vote burst into applause when Mattarella’s name surpassed the 505-vote threshold, making him Italy’s 12th president since World War Two.

Fan’s Open Letter To Wizkid – “You Can Do Better”

wizki

Apparently, D’banj isn’t the only one getting an open letter from a fan, Wizkid just got one too.

Sadly, unlike D’banj’s that his efforts were been commended, this Wizkid fan totally tore the Star-Boy boss apart in this open letter.

Read and enjoy: –

I have been monitoring Wizkid’s moves since he finally got his wish of leaving the recording company that made him, EME, and so far saying i am disappointed is an understatement.

Many of us have forgiven the 24 year old star for releasing a mediocre album, for his standard, but two things we cannot forgive him for are 1) putting in mediocre work into promoting the album and 2) for reducing the quality on his music out of nonchalance.

Wizkid almost didn’t promote the AYO album because after-all, it was his get out of jail clause from EME. But since getting out of jail, that is, leaving EME, Wizkid’s projects have resembled that of an upcoming artiste.

ALL the videos he has released under his Starboy imprint are below standard, even for a hungry artiste who wants to make it big in the game.

The video for Show You The Money was OK, but since it is about money that was a poor video. The Video of In My bed is ridiculous. Wizkid knows this, exactly why he said the video is not a video after he released it, he said it was a “party” and that “he was having fun”. Wizkid you are a top artiste… no games, no fun, just quality.

After releasing In My Bed, Wizkid abandoned AYO album for months, he kick-started Starboy Mondays. He went on to release 2 mediocre singles and 3 below par videos.

Wonder is a 4/10 song at best, while Sound It is a 3/10 song if you want to be forgiving. The videos for the two songs are not Wizkid standard. What a drop in quality.

After this he returned to AYO again, who does this? Only Wizkid. A man who is unsigned, makes all the decisions for himself – safe to say a man without a proper plan or company structure. His fans expected big things from Ojuelegba, once again Wizkid failed, maybe that was a little bit harsh. Wizkid failed to deliver. He released a 1/10 video for arguably the best song on his AYO album.

At this point it looks as if Ibrahim Balogun just wakes up from bed, shouts on the microphone and releases it.

He’s also announced an official single for next month, if i were you, i will look forward to another disappointment from the hugely talented artiste, for now.

What can Ayo Balogun do better? He needs to have a team. He needs to strategize again, more so, he needs a thinkerman. Banky W does this job for him back in the day. Wizkid, you need to control the quality of your music. You can’t continue to release mediocre songs, you can do better. Make your fans thirst for your music.

Read A Fan’s Open Letter To D’banj As He Marks His 10th Anniversary

dban

If you haven’t heard yet, the Kokomaster’s 10th anniversary in the Nigerian music scene is this year and it is surely well anticipated.

The event us scheduled to start in Lagos today with a party to be hosted by Amercian model, Amber Rose.

One of Dbanj’s fans just wrote, who goes by the name -Sir Rozlah, just wrote an open letter to the Kokomaster, praising him to the high heavens.

The fan in the open letter regards D’banj as Africa’s greatest entertainer.

Read the letter below: –

DECADE OF GLORY: THE MEMOIRS OF AN ENTERTAINER

To The KokoMaster,

D’banj,

Music is a difficult thing to define and individuals have different meanings for this word. However, it is undeniable that music is an art of some sort, a mixture of rhythm, words and acoustics carried through the wind by the magic of the moment in which it occurs. Some people redefine music and by so doing, define an era by their uniqueness, infectious charisma and undeniable passion for this art.

Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, is an enigma that defies all attempts to completely define him. You have blazed a trail in the annals of music on this continent and even beyond throughout your scintillating career. It has been a journey of ups and downs, breaking conventions and rewriting the rules in your own style and giving people like me the privilege of watching Africa’s Greatest Entertainer. Perhaps even more astounding is the ease with which you have kept audiences on their feet, blowing their minds away with your unique blend of vocal dexterity and life-based lyrics. Indeed it has been a decade of pure excellence, sheer class and extravagant performances from the Koko Master.

Your rise to prominence is no accident and those who were privileged to listen to you play the harmonica can attest to the hard work, dedication and sheer belief that has catapulted you to the zenith of your profession today. Asides from your undeniable contribution to the musical industry in Nigeria, it is the impact you have made outside the shores of this country and even the continent that stands you out among your peers. From your maiden award at the 2005 Kora Awards to the well-deserved Best Newcomer award bagged at the 2006 Channel O music awards, it was obvious that the trajectory was only going up from there. You kept on turning out hits despite the euphoria of past triumphs and the challenge of surpassing previous accomplishments. It is only fitting that you have a trophy cabinet littered with an avalanche of international, continental and domestic honours to show for your laudable efforts.

Moreover, your status as an outstanding entrepreneur is matched only by your passion for youth development in Africa. The Koko Foundation and the burgeoning ONE campaign are just examples of your foray into the field of selfless service. Every step you take is more than a milestone, signing a lucrative deal with the trendy audio company BeatByDre is more of pace setting as the First African Ambassador of Apple. As Nigeria’s first United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace, you remain a beacon of hope in this troubled period. There are many ways to describe a man of excellence, a man of many parts, an enigma worthy of adulation and genuine adulation. I stand in awe of your existence as a human being and all you have achieved against the odds. It has been my greatest pleasure to be one of your biggest fans and to dream that one day, I can attain heights such as yours. You have proved that the sun can be reached even if the stars seem closer. I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to witness your magic at close quarters. Other men it is said have seen the angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough.

As you celebrate your 10th Year Anniversary in the Music Industry, may God Almighty make you greater as the well of your favour and grace shall not dry. You shall not fail, or stumble, and may God grant and always replenish your wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Welcome to another decade of multiple greatness. God bless you D’banj.

Long Live DKM Media, Long Live DbanjRecords, Long Live TeamDbanj, Long Live D’banj.

Yours Faithfully,

Dami’ Adenuga (DbanjKokoPikin)

Graphic pics: Executed ISIS fighters lined up in the ruins of border town of Kobane

image

Kurdish fighters killed more than 20 ISIS militants during continued fighting in the villages around Kobane which was liberated earlier this week after months of bitter street fighting. In one village, a Kurd was today pictured standing over the bodies of Islamic extremists after they were killed in Halimce, a village east of the town…

Kurdish forces recaptured the town on January 26 in a symbolic blow to the jihadists who have seized large swathes of territory in their onslaught across Syria and Iraq. But the town is now characterised by demolished buildings, with heavily armed fighters roaming otherwise deserted, rubble-strewn streets.

Although their town has been liberated, thousands of residents are now settling into Turkey’s newest refugee camp for an indefinite stay and have been warned not to return until the area has been fully secured. (Courtesy – UK Daily Mail). See the photos below…

Actor Taiwo Hassan – “I Could Have Bought A Hummer Jeep To Beg My Wife”

actoe

We live in an era where to impress a woman, you should be willing to spend the big bucks. Even more so, proposing to her should also come with certain luxurious gifts.

Popular Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan aka Ogogo revealed in a new interview things about his marriage and why he prayed his wife forgive him.

Read excerpts from the interview below: –

On if he’s a womanizer

“I am not a womanizer, I just believe that people surround me because of the love God has for me. It also depends on how you present yourself to people. I believe in self control because if you have s*x with every woman that comes your way, then your life is in danger. If I indulge in such acts, I will not look as radiant as I am at my age. Most likely I might have contracted various diseases. If I were a womaniser, I would have thought I contracted a sexually transmitted disease during the time I was critically ill.”

How did you meet your first wife?

“We were in the same theatre group and I admired her a lot. I saw her and I was interested in her. I told her that I would like to marry her and she agreed. I later married another wife but I believe everything in life has to do with destiny. I vowed that I would not have a second wife because I never fancied polygamy but it happened and I believe it was for a reason. It is God’s doing.”

When you told her you wanted to marry another wife, how did she react to the news?

“She felt bad and I begged her. May God give us a good wife; if I had money I could have bought a hummer jeep to beg my wife but I am not that rich. I made her understand how it happened and that regardless, it would not change anything between us. I begged her to please accept it as our destiny and I appreciate her for her understanding.”

But some women will either pack out of the house or make it unbearable for the man. Did such a thing happen to you?

“Not at all, she did not do any of that. I asked my younger brother and two of my sisters to help me beg her. When they begged her, she said she believed that it is destiny.”

What is the atmosphere in your house?

“One thing I like about my first wife is that she encourages me to help people, especially my family members. She always makes sure I satisfy them if they need my help. When my mother was alive, she took good care of her. God is the only one that can forgive us our sins and I pray that he forgives me. I also pray my wife forgives me.”

When you fell very ill, it was rumoured that you peddled cocaine and it got burst in your belly

“I do not even know what cocaine looks like. Of course, I heard the rumour but an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency once told me that no one survives it when cocaine bursts in the belly. It is normal for people to peddle rumours against a popular person. Some people are image makers while others are image breakers. While I was ill, a journalist very close to me published that I had AIDS. When I became healthy, he began to dodge me. When we eventually met, I told everyone present to thank him for me because without his write-up, even though it was false, no one would have known that I was very ill and I could have died.”

When you were very sick, did it ever occur to you that you might die?

“Of course, it was only natural for one to have such thoughts at that period. I began to have the feeling that I might lose my life after I had sought for help at several places but found none. I spent a lot of money while taking care of myself.”

What lessons did you learn from your illness?

“I learnt that it is not everybody that truly likes you. We have a lot of entertainers in Lagos but only a handful cared enough to check on me when I was ill.”

How were you able to regain your stature because you looked very frail when you were ill?

“That is the work of God because I did not use any drug to regain my stature. I had chronic ulcer so I had to be eating well; the only thing I could not do was exercise. I am getting over it because ulcer can only be managed and not totally cured.”

Did you have ulcer because you hardly ate?

“Ulcer is not only about eating well, there was too much acid in my body. I don’t go to parties, neither do I drink alcohol. The day it began, I was fasting. I was at home for seven months without taking anything except pap. I thank God the worst is over”

Obanikoro insists Buhari was stoned at Lagos Rally

image

He released a statement through his Special Adviser (Media Strategy) Ohimai Amaize

Immediate past Minister of State for Defence and former PDP Lagos gubernatorial aspirant, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro on Friday chided the All Progressives Congress (APC) over denials that its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari was stoned in Lagos while making his way to the APC Lagos presidential rally.

Senator Obanikoro had condemned the stoning of General Muhammadu Buhari in Lagos on Friday after the news of his stoning broke via online news media platforms and went viral across the social media.

The APC on Friday through its spokesperson, Lai Mohammed denied the report stating that General Buhari was not stoned but rather received cheers from bystanders.

However, Senator Obanikoro in a statement on Friday issued by Ohimai Amaize, his Special Adviser on Media Strategy, noted that the APC’s denial of Buhari’s stoning in Lagos was not only pointless and futile but also does not give the APC any advantage.

“When things go wrong, we must acknowledge and condemn it in order to forestall any future occurrences.

“Senator Obanikoro, based on eyewitness accounts is aware of the stoning incident at Idumagbo area of Isale-Eko, Lagos State and the fact that a woman was injured in the ensuing fracas after General Buhari’s security detail had to shoot into the air to dispel the irate mob”, the statement noted.

Signed

Ohimai Amaize

Special Adviser (Media Strategy) to Senator Musiliu Obanikoro
