Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is set to miss about four weeks of action with a muscle rupture, according to manager Louis van Gaal.
The United vice-captain will miss Saturday’s Premier League game at home to Leicester City and is likely out of contention for further matches against Cambridge United (FA Cup replay), West Ham, Burnley, Swansea City and Sunderland.
“Michael Carrick has been injured now so he is out at the weekend,” Van Gaal told MUTV. “He can be important for the team but he is now injured.
“I think it shall take more than four weeks, so it is not a minor injury but a muscle rupture, I think.”
Van Gaal also revealed midfielder turn wing-back, Ashley Young, is close to making a comeback from injury.
