The Comptroller-General of Prisons, Mr. Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, has summoned warders in Kaduna State to shed more light on the recent jailbreak at a prison facility in Kachia town, during which five inmates escaped.

The closed-door meeting, held at the Kaduna Prison, was also said to have proffered solutions to the rising wave of jailbreaks in the country.

It would be recalled that inmates in Kachia Prison, few weeks ago, attacked warders at night and escaped in the process. Also, gunmen have lately attacked prisons in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State; Akure, Ondo, Ekiti State and Minna, Niger State and freed dozens of inmates.

Already, some officials in charge of the prison in Kachia have been dismissed over the incident.

Emerging from the closed-door meeting, Mr. Ekpendu said it was an ‘interactive session’ that identified the best ways to stop jailbreaks, adding that measures were taken to safeguard all correctional facilities across the country.

The Comptroller-General also held an interactive session with the inmates, while calling on parents to guard their children and wards against social vices.
