Uefa announces that a minute’s silence will be observed before both Champions League semi-final second legs in memory of Tito Vilanova and Vujadin Boskov.
“A short announcement will be made in the teams’ native languages,\ explaining the silence while a montage of the two coaches, who both died in recent days, will be displayed in the stadiums ahead of FC Bayern Munich’s meeting with Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC’s home encounter with Club Atletico de Madrid. Teams have been given the option of wearing black armbands for the game,” Uefa said in a statement.
Vilanova led Barcelona to the Spanish league title in 2012/13 after serving as coach Pep Guardiola’s assistant. He died on Friday, aged 45, after contracting cancer.
Boskov, who died on Sunday at the age of 82, led Real Madrid to the Spanish double in 1980 and Sampdoria to their sole Serie A triumph in 1991. The Serbian led Yugoslavia to the quarter-finals of Euro 2000.
