One of the most visible female political figures in Kwara State and first daughter of the late strongman of Kwara politics, Dr Olusola Saraki, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, has denied plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The rumours were rife of recent that Gbemisola was planning to dump the PDP over alleged irreconcilable differences between her and leaders of the party in the state.
The rumour was further strengthened when Gbemisola failed to make a showing at President Godluck Jonathan’s re-election campaign rally in the state recently.
She was also visibly absent at the launch of the party’s state-wide campaign at Bode Saadu in Moro local government area of the state.
But speaking with journalists at the Ilorin International Airport yesterday, the former senator expressed concern that the 2015 election has paid more attention on rumours and ‘stories’ than on real issues.
“The problem with this election is that it has been filled with rumours and counter rumour and stories. We should make the election issue-based and not rumours”, she said when asked to react to rumours of her planned defection.
Asked what instruction has been passed to her followers, many of whom thronged the airport to welcome her, Gbemisola said, “My folllowers are seasoned politicians; we are seasoned politicians. We understand the system and we know what is important. I don’t need to advise them on what to do because they know what to do and insha Allah, they shall do it when the time comes”.
