Two Fraudsters In Remanded For Cloning Kwankwaso’s Phone Number

Two suspected fraudsters, Kabiru Ali, and Idris Umar have been arraigned before a Kano High court for allegedly defrauding the Accountant General of the state, Danjuma Mahamud, while pretending to be the Kano state Governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

The duo were alleged to have made an illegal act by pretending to be Gov. Kwankwaso by cloning his phone number and dishonestly sent a text message to the state Accountant General, instructing him to release the sum of three million naira into a bogus account, which he obliged.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister GM Bichi, who slammed a four count charge on the accused persons, explained that the offences contravenes section 98 sub 2 , 324 and 325 of the penal code law.

When the charges were read out to them by the prosecution counsel, the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Judge, Justice Hadiza Sulieman, adjourned the case to the 27th, April, 2015 for hearing and ordered the suspects to be remanded in prison custody.

However, an oral bail application by the defence counsel was over ruled by the presiding judge, who further directed him to file a formal application for bail.
