EXCLUSIVE: Silva could miss Manchester Derby

Silva has a relatively small chance of featuring on Sunday

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has ostensibly been ruled of Sunday’s Derby clash with arch-rivals Manchester United. Information Nigeria understands.

Silva clashed with Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor and was subsequently replaced by Samir Nasri barely ten minutes of play in the Capital One Cup loss on Wednesday. It appeared to be a serious knee injury and Pellegrini concurred in his post-match conference:

“David has a problem in his knee. I don’t know how serious it is. We will see tomorrow with the doctor.”

His importance to the City squad can’t be understated, and it was evident last week when he scored a solo goal against Westham to hand his side a lifeline.

Ahead of the Manchester Derby, Manuel Pellegrini would be cursing his luck for the Spaniard’s apparent absence. Manchester United have gone four games unbeaten including two difficult fixtures against Everton and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Defender Aleksandar Kolarov has launched a scathing attack ahead of Sunday’s much anticipated tie by describing Manchester United as inferior.

Kolarov said: “It is a great game to watch or play in – I think every player in the world would like to play this game.

“United has a great history but in the last five or six years, I think we have been superior to them. It will be a great game to play.”
