Monaco’s Elderson Echiejle grabbed his first goal of the season as Cameroon’s Benjamin’s Moukandjo came back with Reims to hunt his former club in a 1-1 draw at the Stade Louis II on Friday.
Elderson Echiiejile gave Leandro Jardim’s men a deserved lead 20 minutes into the match, slamming in Bernardo Silva’s low ball from the back post following a smart passing move.
The strike was also the 26-year-old Super Eagles invitee’s first goal in the French top-flight.
The principality hosts dominated much of the Ligue 1 clash but failed to convert their chances, with impressive teenager, Anthony Martial, denied a goal by Mohamed Fofana, who cleared his goal-bound effort after scuffing the ball over goalkeeper Johnny Placide.
They were left to rue their lack of incision when Moukandjo, who played at the same ground in the 2010-11 season, side-footed past Danijel Subassic from Nicolas de Preville’s inch-perfect delivery from the right.
Excited to have scored my first league goal tonight but it wasn't the result we wanted, thanks for your support. #AllerMonaco
