Ezekwesili Calls On FG To Prioritize Bringing Back Chibok Girls

Former Minister of Education and Bringbackourgirls campaigner, Oby Ezekwesili has called on the Federal Government to make the rescue of the 219 girls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by the Boko Haram group priority over every other activity.

Ezekwesili, who spoke yesterday ahead of the 200th day since the schoolgirls were abducted by the terrorists, expressed sorrow that the girls remained in the hold of their abductors.

She also dismissed claims that the BringBackOurGirls group’s activities had a political undertone.

“As far as we are concerned, we are not looking at any other thing, we are just interested in the Federal Government living up to its responsibility, the need to rescue the Chibok girls,” said Ezekwesili.

“Every other thing pales into insignificance to the lives of 219 citizens of Nigeria who should not be in the enemy’s den for 200 days now,” she added.

276 girls were on April 14 abducted from the Government Secondary School, Chibok. 57 of the girls reportedly escaped from the insurgents, but efforts to rescue the remaining girls have so far proven abortive.

Hopes were however raised on October 17 when the government announced it has agreed a ceasefire with the Boko Haram sect and that the abducted Chibok girls would be released as part of the agreement.

Despite the announced ceasefire, attacks and abductions have continued in Nigeria’s north, raising concerns on whether the FG was negotiating with the right group.

The girls remain missing and many more were reported to have joined them in the last few weeks as the Boko Haram sect continued its attacks and abduction.
