The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, Thursday, advised politicians to caution their supporters against acts capable of causing violence during the forthcoming elections.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor said this when the Gubernatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), Alhaji Bashir Ishaq, paid him a courtesy call at his palace in Kano.
“Election is not a war, so there is need for politicians to caution their supporters against violence. People should be allowed to vote for whoever they think will take them to the promise land,” he said.
Sanusi noted that no meaningful development can be achieved in any country in an atmosphere of uncertainty and chaos.
He therefore urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the elections, as that is the only way to ensure they are not disenfranchised.
The Emir also called for continuous prayers for peaceful elections in the country.
Speaking earlier, the PDM governorship candidate in the state, Ishaq, said he was in the palace to seek for the blessings and prayers of the emirate council.
He promised that, if elected, he would give priority attention to education, power and health sectors as the sectors are very important to the socioeconomic development of the society.
